Not a spider, but I found this little fella in Dominica when filming Pirates 2.

I would identify it as an irregularly-shaped, flat, gooey substance found under my shoe.

I think the Amazon starts in Peru in the West and runs through Brazil for over 2000 miles and is at least 2000 miles north to south.

In the far west it starts in the Andes mountains and extends through several other types of climate. That's why even a central location is key.
