RUSH-Tour without Neil Peart?
Lots of talk on my drumming forums about the possibility of RUSH going on tour with a replacement for Mr. Peart.
Personally, I don't think they should go without him. There are plenty of drummers that could fill in but I don't think it would be the same. I'm curious as to thoughts of those fans here that aren't drummers.

Sounds about as great as a Garfunkel. Messina and Oates tour.

That's insane. Neil is the driving force of Rush. Also, song writer. Geddy's voice is not so great anymore either. I love Rush and would not support a tour without Neil. Some bands just need to call it quits and go out with grace, or in their case, Grace under pressure..

I remember in Beyond The Lighted Stage that Geddy had said they wouldn't perform as Rush without all three present.

There is all sorts of talk going on on all sorts of forums.
Rush without Peart is even worse than LedZep without Bonzo.

It'd be like Van Halen without David Lee Roth.

Roth's and Peart's quality of live performance are 180 deg. apart. You can't get much worse than Roth and you can't get much better than Peart.

Band.

They won't. They don't need the money and it's not like they're due for a victory lap tour, because they never took a very big break anyway.

his drumming is the soul of that band. it is what makes their music special to me.
they could perform without geddy (imo) but not peart.

I really think they should hire a singer and give Geddy a break. His voice has gotten all weird and awful for the last few tours, even when he's not trying to sing the high stuff. And then they tune down for the old stuff now and that sounds really bad.

I would not attend a Rush concert if he were not there. Geddy Lee staying home would be better than Mr Peart.

There are a couple of guys that could cover the gig (Simon Phillips comes to mind). But I don't think they'd do it.
Look for some one-off concerts that include Peart. That probably would scratch all the various itches. |

|I saw them a couple times in the 70's at Massey hall and the Oshawa civic with Max Webster.

Mike Portnoy is another that could do the job but again....it just isn't the same.
Todd Sucharman of STYX has been mentioned a few times as well. It would be interesting, if anything, to have a fill-in on drums.

Peart-less Rush?
I'd rather go and see Rick's cover band or Gogar's cougar band. |
