05 - 07 Mercedes SL 55 AMG any experiences??

Seem to be a pretty good bang for the buck.

I know heavy as heck, but it would not be going to the track.

My pops has an 08 SL550, so while I cannot comment on the drivetrain, I can on the chassis. It is a weird blend of car. Bounces like a sports car, has a GT drivetrain and smoothness but a cozy/cramped cabin. Basically too uncomrtable for a GT, too soft for a sports car. Interior material is nice, but the touchscreen navigation is a bit confusing and clunky, though what touchscreen of that era isn't? His has had a lot of minor electronics fail on him - window switches, parking sensors, brake sensors, etc.

I own the 4 door equivalent with the same engine (M113K) in a 2006 E55 AMG and I've owned the car for 7+ years and the performance is staggering. Ownership has been quite inexpensive too, I do all my own maintenance at home and I had a few warranty items taken care of by the MB dealer (I purchased the extended warranty).

The interior looks brand new and the car still looks great, and is extremely well built, no squeaks and creeks and no electrical issues.

I recommend ownership!

Wow, I was curious, so I did a search for Slow&Rusty's car, then for the SL variant. What I found was shocking. Apparently both weigh in at over 4000#, about 4200# Yowza!

Still, tons of power, huge tires, huge breaks, they may not handle like a 356, but they will hit 60 in about 4.5 secs, and I suspect they do a decent job of stopping.

Yes correct Steve - they are heavy cars but even basic cars like a 2016 Camry tips in at 3500lbs.

These AMG cars have 8 piston front Brembos and 4 piston in the rear. The brakes are larger and more powerful than anything offered from Ferrari or Lamborghini from the same years.

My car has been tastefully modified in the years I've owned it as MB left some room on the table to tune them. I'm at 580hp and over 600ft.lbs of torque, and the car is quite light on its feet. I had an opportunity to run against a Gallardo recently, and he couldn't keep up with my family wagon

Nice, I've always thought that an AMG Merc sounded pretty appealing as a cruiser. The missus loves to ride in the Boxster, but I suspect she'd like something a bit more luxurious even more. I love to drive the boxster, but there are times when cruising with the missus when it would be nice to have an auto trans.
