"Didn't Bruce Anderson get his start rebuilding salvage engines from a Porsche ship dunking?"
What Porsche ship dunked, and how far back are you talking?? Was it the one with 356's in 1962? Keith:eek: |
I'm pretty sure they were 911s, not 356's (late 60s??). I don't think the ship actually sank but got rammed or something and flooded the cars on board. -- Curt
Wayne: no need to thank me for squeezing the word "911" into this thread. |
Maybe it was M3s. Better they rot at the bottom of the ocean than some poor bastard takes delivery, destroys the crank, and has to wait indefinitely for a correctly machined replacement engine.

The tanker was T-boned by another ship, this article was not consistent with the reports from a few days ago. They didn't print the shot of the bow of the other ship, BIG flat spot on that one.
The original estimates were 30M for the cars and the tanker at 25M, maybe that's where the 50M figure came from ? Speculation was that the cars were breaking apart on the bottom, but I've seen transport photos where everything was strapped to hooks in the deck; anybody looking for a super-cousin discount on a new-new 996 ?? I just went back and found the story, the amounts I was remembering were in pounds. CNN article |

Just found out that a buddy of mine who has been eagerly awaiting delivery of his new M3 might have it delayed a little while.....

somebody already beat me to the 'too bad it wasnt Cayenne's'
I hear they had 574 Volvo XC90's on board--thats a bummer since Volvo had to scrap 500 of them early on because of problems.. Chris |
the sad part is the insurance companies will not be the ones hurt by this...the consumer will!
"Mark up the remaining sells for the year and maybe next year to cover this loss"...this is what the pencil pushers at the car companies are saying.SmileWavy |
There is no truth to the rumor that the other ship was sporting an SCWDP sticker.....

LOL Mike :)

Here at my company, Mercedes-Benz, we just had our quarterly IT Town Hall Meeting, where the new effort, labeled "BCC : Best Car Company" was discussed. During the QA period, someone asked if the sinking of the ship laden with BMW's was part of the BCC plan...
Seems like the SCWDP has a friend in Stuttgart: one that bears a three pointed star!! -Z. Disclaimer: the views expressed here are entirely for humor purposes, and do not reflect the opinions or actions of Mercedes-Benz. |
LOL James :D
