I would hate to be the insurance carriers for these companies...ouch!

Cornpanzer 12-18-2002 05:16 AM

Man, can you imagine what it sounded like when that thing tipped on its side.

beepbeep 12-18-2002 05:19 AM

Actually, it was mostly Volvo's and Saab's ... less than 20% was BMW...but it rims better with "luxury cars" in the magazine...

Tim Walsh 12-18-2002 05:37 AM

Any way you look at it $50 mil is a nice chunk of change..

Deeks 12-18-2002 06:03 AM

all those M3's to waste.... ....shame.

Jdub 12-18-2002 06:17 AM

Soon, on a Discovery channel near you: James Cameron plumbs the depths of the ocean to spleunk the carnage of BMWs that never touched a wheel to ashphalt in anger.

"Zero miles on the odometer, I, ...I just can't bear to think of the youthful zeal, the life unlived, the horror, the horror!" said the plucky diver Cameron. "And to think there wasn't a single Cayenne on board - is there no God?"

Wayne, after giving us a tongue lashing the other time about not posting OTs here, I'm surprised that you yourself just posted an OT....

but oops, i forgot, you're God here so you can do whatever you wish...carry on...:)

71T Targa 12-18-2002 06:23 AM

$50,000,000/2,862=$17,470...

What BMW, Volvo, or Saab can you get for $17,500???

Or does the $50 Mill reflect the fact that these cars will soon be on a showroom floor near you???

89911 12-18-2002 06:38 AM

Buyer, "Gee, I don't know, that price seems high for a "Demo". "Why is it so salty?" Salesman, "Well, they have been really salting the roads lately." Buyer, "This is Los Angeles?'

old_skul 12-18-2002 06:44 AM

You know how tempting it is to move this to the O/T forum, Wayne? ;)

...fingers....itching....

john_colasante 12-18-2002 07:06 AM

To keep it on topic, a:

QUIZ!

A shipwreck like this launched the career of what famous Porsche personality?

billwagnon 12-18-2002 07:08 AM

Didn't Bruce Anderson get his start rebuilding salvage engines from a Porsche ship dunking?

john_colasante 12-18-2002 07:12 AM

Correct billwagnon!

billwagnon 12-18-2002 07:13 AM

the scary thing is I didn't see your question!

(use the force, Luke)

SoCal911T 12-18-2002 07:19 AM

I'm trying to think positive, maybe it was just the 7 series and X5's

yelcab1 12-18-2002 07:34 AM

This is why Ferrari transports their cars via ... air plane cargos. Saw four red Ferrari in crates at the Milano airport once.

john_colasante 12-18-2002 07:57 AM

That is scary.

What will Wayne's "hook" be?

widebody911 12-18-2002 08:23 AM

Well, Jack has always thought the BMW guys were all wet...

jpachard 12-18-2002 08:58 AM

Too Bad it wasn't a bunch of Cayennes:p ......James

thamlin000 12-18-2002 10:07 AM

Salvage experts say most if not all of the vehicles will have to be written off as total losses. Their estimated value is put at $50 million.

Most!?

So they think some will be rebuilt after being extracted from the bottom of the ocean?
