BMW M2- What is your thought on this car?

I think it is a great car for the money., I like small zippy cars (although I drive a truck daily). New technology cars do not entertain me much, but a base M2 with no gadgets could be fun.

But then again, built one at $55k HERE

I watched 'Motorweek' the other day and they featured the M2. It looks better than the regular 2 series and the Motorweek staff really seemed to like the car. They mentioned a couple of times it was much like an older M3 and even preferred it over the M4 (I would too but I like smaller, lighter cars).

My biggest complaint with all new BMWs, is the screen tacked on to the dashboard like an after thought. I drove a regular 228 recently and i couldn't get past that thing.

Supposed to be a modern throwback to the E46 M3. I like the back to basics approach, but have a hard time getting excited about any modern BMW with their questionable build quality and reliability.

I'd sooner get one of the flat plane crank Mustangs if going north of $50K+

BMW doesn't have my trust, I have two friends with them, interior is falling apart. I've seen 1980's chevy's that the interior held up better. The BMW's are cheap parts coated to look better, but the coatings peel making it look like crap.

Cool car to lease, call me a sceptic. I got in one at the car show this winter and was impressed, interior size reminded me a lot of my old e36 m3. Who knows what will happen down the road but right now, out of the box, I like it.

So many models now, what's the point?...I liked it when it was 3,5,7. Now more models than Chevy. I guess their OCD kicked in....wir must haben all der noombers from ein to sieben, no more schkippenzie noombers!!!

I've heard some call it the new 1M, and look at where values are going on those! Seem like cool cars are rare. I talk to a few m3/4 owners a week, rarely an M2

They are similar in size but the 1M is a LOT more rare and used a lot more bespoke parts. The M2 is basically a parts bin car, using a lot of M4 and other BMW bits. So I don't see these appreciating like the 1M seems to be.

Maybe it is a better car than its specs?

MSRP: From $51,700
Curb weight: 3,450 lbs
Horsepower: 365 hp

My 993 should be similar in performance here? I can still buy a very nice one for $50k. And can expect it to sell for $50k down the line. I guess there aren't a lot of new sports car buyers on this board ... (see the "dealership" thread).

George, I think you nicely identified why many of us are here. Sadly the 993 might also be more reliable.

It may be a bit faster than the 993. But still 20 year older car and not much improvement. The curb weight is amazing!

With traffic the way it is around here, I don't hardly drive the 993 - sit in traffic with the M2 would be painful. If I buy another sports car, it will be a designated track weapon, so I can save the 993 from that duty. I am thinking about an Elise ...
