Never had a DPMS. How do they rank?

I'm still struggling with the build vs. buy for my first AR.

Note: I am a software guy, not a hardware guy, if you know what I mean.

Sure is a friendly price.

I'm not sold on it. That upper assembly looks like it's built on a thin nickel. probably aluminum gas block. However, I am biased, and don't like light barrels.

Near the bottom. It's known as "Doesn't Pass Military Standards" for a reason. YMMV.

I picked up a Smith & Wesson M&P sport last week for $600 at my LGS. it's a little more than the posted gun but it does include sights, and a name that most are familiar with. I also looked at putting one together, but at $600 I didn't see much savings.

IIRC Their higher end AR's were pretty good out of the box and used quite a bit in 3 gun. I remember being impressed by the examples I got trigger time with. Granted, that was 8-9 years and $2k ago.

I have one as well, and helped my sister in law pick up one for her husband for Christmas. He's a former Marine and really likes the M&P, which is a decent endorsement in my book.
