that played out EXACTLY how i thought it would...WRONG!

hahah..almost comical.

the toyota shop blew it. i said not to do the recall unless they could move the AAL over.

they said yes, and even said it was done. i went to pick it up right now..nope. NOT DONE. tail is dragging. super funny looking.
i didnt freak out. i asked for the missing parts. they appear to be missing..gone. hahahhaha..

i am so effed.

i ONLY lifted the rear because the truck bottomed out with a minor load. then the rear was too high, so i lifted the front. now the rears are lowered. like a bad dream.

so..being me, i am going to drop the front. the new leafs are supposed to fix the bottoming out issue as well.

i love my truck for the most part. it gets me anywhere and back again. on my outdoor trips everyone parks their bigger trucks and make me do the nasty 4x4 stuff. my truck in insanely capable..for a tiny turd.

this stupid crap i'm going through..this to,shall pass.

I got a leaf spring recall notice about bottoming years ago.
They upped the rear springs to heavier ones
I was happy.

I got the frame recall notice last year.
They inspected it and undercoated it.

I got the more recent leaf spring safety notice about breaking springs this time.
I kept it under advisement
This spring I heard a clanking over bumps.

My truck is 10 years old.
They replaced the leaf spring on that side under warranty

I had noticed when I inspected it before I brought it in that it looked like my rear brake line had been hit by the spring. They replaced that along with the spring and immediately issued a new notice that gas tanks could also get hit.
(I honestly believe that mine was the truck that prompted that additional warning).

I had it in for an oil change next, and now they said they weren't happy with the undercoating and wanted to replace my frame this time. (BTW, body is rust free).

I just got it back two weeks ago with its new frame, new brake lines, new fuel lines, new lower A-arms, balls joints etc, and all new leaf springs as part of the frame kit.

At 10 years old, I am very happy with Toyota for taking care of my high mileage truck AND moving my two year old aftermarket adjustable front Koni shocks and rear 1" lift blocks over onto the new frame and setting the adjustable front ride height shocks up perfectly.

I love my dealer, my Tacoma and Toyota!

(Ask 2002 GM truck owner what they thought of GMs response to their 3 year old rusty frames a few years ago).

Toyota certainly has earned my loyalty by being loyal to me.

(oh, and at 220,000kms I just did my rear brakes for the first time an my front brakes for only the second time, and I have pulled boats, camper trailer,s and race car haulers through much of its life).

That's it. I sold it to a buddy of mine here at work a couple of years ago. I see him every day, so I get "updates". After two more years of ownership, he had to - gasp! - clean the mass air flow sensor wire for a total cost of $6 for a can of cleaner. It has ~160k miles on it now. No "fixes" whatsoever.

Another buddy of mine has an '09 Tacoma that he complains about all the time. Squeaks, rattles, leaks, recalls, etc. He claims that Toyota cheaped out on the newer Tacomas trying to outsell GM and become the largest car mfg in the world.

Maybe so. I'll just keep driving my 1997 Land Cruiser.
Their quality from a decade ago is why they still sell well today. But the quality compared to the competition is no longer superior. I sold my old 2003 4Runner to Seahawk, his wife has over 200k worth of flawless miles on it and will probably be buried in the thing. My in-laws have a nearly new Tacoma and I find the fit/finish, materials, and driving quality to be far inferior to my old 4Runner despite 10+ years worth of "improvements" to the same platform.

Well, maybe it's not my imagination then. I cut my teeth on 1980s Toyotas (3 pickups and a 4Runner). Those things were literally built like tanks. I now have an 80 series (a vehicle I know you are familiar with ) and am still amazed at how over-designed and well-built it is. After the nuclear apocalypse, there will be cockroaches and old Toyota Land Cruisers left and that's about it.

My FJ80 is at/near the top of my list of cars I wish I had never sold. It's still around town, I occasionally see it from a distance. One of these days I'll track it down.

I loved my FJ62, but boy it was one thirsty truck. I've looked at them lately and nice ones with 160k are going for $15k and up.

Yep. And bad gas mileage. But...if you want to go anywhere in the world in relative comfort and make it back again, get an 80 series Land Cruiser. 80 series Land Cruisers have a cult following kind of like air cooled 911s if that tells you anything...

Construction equipment, tractors and tanks are slow as well, but they are brutally rugged!

They do 0-60 in about 3 days but once you are up to cruising speed they are just fine. They are a bit like old 911's, maybe not as zippy as a new Toyota Corolla but you can't help but have a smile on your face as you drive. There's just something about them.
