The Lobster

Saw it the other night, expected something quite different. Reminiscent of the art house films of the 80s: Wings of Desire, I've Heard the Mermaids Singing, My Life as a Dog, Barfly, Blue Velvet, Brazil, Blade Runner, etc., it was like going back in time. Best part was how entirely unique it was in comparison to the formulaic, entertaining pablum Hollywood puts out now. Writing and acting were excellent. But be forewarned, it can be over the top dark, which, while revolting, was to the film's credit.

Haven't seen much like this in years. In that alone, it was refreshing.

Regardless. One of the best movies I have seen in a long time "at the theatre".

It was perfect. The forever pause on the blinded woman and then instant black. The instant black meant one thing.

Just a guess, the donkey hurt the woman at one time. simple revenge.

The other donkey being upset could point to that "she" was the killed donkey's lover, BUT, that would not make any sense in the context of the film since they would be a couple, not donkeys.

Whatever, it certainly set the tone.

It definitely got one's attention.... and it had to be some kind of revenge or payback but as you point out, in the overall context ??

and yes, the ending sucked but the bleed to black could only mean one thing...
