Building a new deck...

So I'm building a new deck (really just extending my front porch) and am about ready to start putting the decking on it. I'm going to use cupped cedar (as it matches the rest of the porch). The rest of the porch is already coated with a solid-color stain and I'm going to do the same with the new stuff.

Dumb question: Is it worthwhile to stain the bottom of the decking before screwing to the joists?

I wouldn't. I'd coat the tops and sides. In the future, if you might need to take the decking up and turn it over to expose a new side, you'd have to sand the stain off. It would discolor differently than the top sides. That way you'd just have to hit it lightly with a sander & stain.
