Inside Koenigsegg

Anyone followed this on Youtube?

I always thought of these guys as a bit of a niche filler in the hypercar space, till I came across a number of videos that delve into the innovation side of their business:

They are innovators, no doubt, how do you 3d print stainless steel, that's my question...

Based on what I know from How It's Made, you print a matrix of stainless steel with a binder, then you fire it in a furnace where you let it absorb a filler metal. I've seen it done with a stainless matrix and bronze. Not sure how you do it with stainless matrix and stainless filler without melting the matrix.

I imagine you would use a higher carbon content steel with a slightly higher melting point and then introduce the material that would substitute for the filler. Temperature control would probably need to be fairly precise though as most stainless steels probably have only slightly different melting points even with variations in their carbon contents. Any materials engineers on here?

There is the way described above, but I suspect Koenigsegg use the laser sintering method where metal powder is fused together with a very powerful laser. Will post a YouTube link later.

I've thought they were pretty cool since the first time I saw them on Top Gear. I'll check out the videos. I wish it was just one long video, I'd like to watch it on my TV.
