Outstanding!

On a serious note, however, such inane b.s. has kept into the hunting and fishing regulations of most of the lower 48. I well remember when I was much younger, and the hunting regulations for Washington were maybe three to four pages, including advertisements. Today they are somewhere between 70-90 pages, with a bewildering array of license and tag options, special hunt applications, "master hunter" only units and seasons, the state divided into hundreds of "game management units", horribly short and divided seasons, antler restrictions by unit and date, and on and on.

Hunter participation is at an all-time low. Our illustrious Game Department claims to be at a loss as to how to encourage more hunters to take the field, but many of us suspect that they really no longer want us to hunt, much less be successful. I no longer hunt in my home state, and I know many who will not.

Another fine example of an unaccountable government bureaucracy, responsible for its own rules and enforcement, losing sight of its real mission. Their self-fulfilling mission has become to simply write more rules.

Mountain Yellow Legged Frog (MYLF) "studies" have closed several recreational climbing and hiking areas here in CA. While I am certainly NOT any expert on that species or its importance to the habitat I DO question the need to close public recreational lands indefinitely while said "studies" are carried out... Seems to me much like the Delta Smelt/drought issue we have here. 😕😡

One of the reasons I haven't hunted or fished in years. You'd need a law firm to be able to understand all the regulations. Other resaons? Got too damned old to run up or down hills, and the biggie..my hunting buddy died.

snort cough snort. just shot milk out my nose. These two letter are getting forwards world wide , both hemispheres.

it's sad but true,

the Fees are phone-book size regs.......and yet, they've basically shut down ALL Salmon fishing in the Seattle Puget Sound Region, Recreation, Tribal Indians, Commercial.

Due to record zero level runs, everyone is barking for the last fish.

yet at the same time, shut down fish Hatcheries due to budget cuts.

Some friends brought some trout over last weekend that they'd caught in a local fish planted lake during a kids fishing derby.

Nice looking 15-18" trout...........they also tasted like mud eating Carp Crap.

mushy soft meat and Purina Trout Chow fed from the farm raised by Eli Maye Clampet in the back yard ceeemment pond. Yee Dauggy.

Fun, but there are other more deserving outlets for your bureaucratic sarcasm. Remove all regulations and you have the Malheur standoff. Those guys left that place in tip top shape...

Yep, those rules are in place for a reason. So people living in rural areas can put on their Lil' Abner and Daisy Mae costumes in order to entertain those city people when they decide to take a drive to admire the scenery...

Haha. It is true - total PITA to stay on top of the rules if you fish or hunt more than 1 or 2 species. I.e. spear fishing vs. line fishing, marine projected areas etc. Try to go get an Abalone in CA - it has become really complicated and you better study up with fines of $1k+ if you mess up. I hunt and fish for sport, so no sense in cheating, I follow the rules to the T and study them but still am uneasy every time I get checked, wondering if I missed something.

There should be an effort to simplify rules wherever possible to make hunting and fishing more enjoyable and easier to prepare for.
