Hearing Loss? Or Advancing Crabiness?

In the past year, I've noticed that I increasingly dislike trying to have a conversation with certain kinds of music playing.

Now, the exact situation where this comes up is trying to talk with my kids in the car when they are playing rap music. So maybe this is simply that I've become a crabby old guy.

But suppose it is actually a sign of hearing loss?

How would I know the difference?

It might be a hearing problem of discrmination. I hate trying to have a conversation if any music or radio is playing, or in a restaurant. I can't discriminate between the voices I want to hear and the background chatter. In a quiet room I can hear a whisper, but add a couple of people talking in the background an d I can't make out what anyone is saying at any volume.

Listen to it on your own. If you get crabby, it's not your hearing.

Just tell the kids to shut up.

If crabbiness goes away, it ain't the music.

Go to an audiologist and get tested.

Rap music makes my blood boil, so I guess that makes me an old crabby guy. I guess it would depend on the volumn of the "music" being played.....there is very little musical melody to rap, while country music is far more instrumental, and easier to digest.

I think the reason I hate rap, is for all the angry lyrics that attempt shock value.

Dance music or rap annoys me and makes me crabby so you are not alone.

We were in a KMart yesterday and the music was too loud and very "dancey". Just annoyed the pi$$ out of me. So much so that when we got to the register and ended up waiting for close to 10 minutes for the line to move we dropped our items and left.

I actually had a better experience at WALMART, which I absolutely try to avoid.

You want torture? Go into a teen branded store. Holy crap, that is not even tolerable for me. I advised my wife that she will be taking our daughter to any of those stores in the future.

EDIT- My daughter and I listen to rock/metal, my son and wife listen to country.

Q. There are three cowboys sitting in the front seat of a pickup truck.

Who is in charge ?

A. The one in the middle. He doesn't have to drive, he doesn't have to get out and open the gate, AND HE HAS CONTROL OF THE RADIO.

Q. Who is in charge of your car ? If you need to converse, the volume goes down.

I just had my flight physical done, the doctor said I have excellent hearing for a 25 year old ( I am 48). I would vote crabbiness because I am the same way in regards to conversations and music.

Great question. I'm at the point (57) that I never turn the tv on and just listen to talk radio down low. I've had to ask folks multiple times to repeat a word or phrase because I didn't understand them.
