Thinking About an E36 M3

95 preferably, Dakar yellow, sport package. I worked on hundreds of them. Just got one in for service, realized how much fun they are.

Are there any owners here? Any thoughts where to find a decent one?

I love them. Never owned one, but got to flog it a few times. Motor doesn't sing like an E46 but it'll do. If 95, I highly highly suggest Daytona Violet. It is perfect on the car, and I'm not a purple guy.

The hard part is finding one that hasn't been flogged all it's life. They're getting up there in years as well.

Had that exact car in 99 or 2000. Quite possibly the best all around car I have ever had. I was only 19 at the time and after I got my insurance bill I had to sell. Couldn't quite handle $450 a month premiums. Drove it across the state a few times with a car load of people and luggage. Lots of room, comfy, and tons of torque.

I owned and daily drove a '97 M3 for seven years. It was the greatest car I have owned. I always kept it in stock condition. To me it drove like a much more refined 911. The e36 is a supremely satisfying drive. Find yourself a good one.

Not the best built, but if you've worked on them you already know that. Otherwise fantastic driving cars, the straight six scream at higher RPM is something special. Personally I would save a few thousand more and get the E46 instead, which is a true M car. They made lots of the E36, your challenge will be finding on that hasn't been totally ragged out by a teenager.

We still have ours, she daily drove it for 4 years in and out of the city, so it has some bumps and bruises, but I like this car so much that I decided to hang on to it .
I used to flog the life out of this car, and never, not once, did it come out of character . It is a great handling car, and even though the next gen was faster, I would argue that the e 36 is better looking ( more classic BMW ) , and plenty fast enough to be fun .
It has actually been a very reliable car .
Daytona Violet , or Techno Violet is an awesome color on this car . The pic does not do it justice, it is sitting in the shade . Taken right now out my front door .

Ahh, the source of my Pelican username... I had a '95 Avus Blue over Dove Gray. I sold it in '09 with a mere 48k miles on the clock. It was probably the best BMW I owned. I often miss it.

I was looking for a 4-door sedan as a semi-daily driver but many are now on their 3rd or 4th owner, and have not been taken care of. The few that appear to be well maintained and one or two owner cars are almost double the price.

Interesting thread...while not an E36 M3, I've been recently looking at E46 M3s as a daily driver. I do like both, but wanted something a little newer.
