What profession contains the biggest liars?
I disclose right up front I am a Banker. I know the media has done a great job smearing us, but i sleep well at night knowing I help create jobs, deliver payroll, finance growth and create stability.
I notice there are a lot of people I come in contact with that just dont have integrity. They say something but you get something else. I consider it my responsibility to drill down on most of these...like doing a ppi before buying a car or having a house inspection. But other situations make due diligence difficult or impracticle. Intrestingly to me, these seem lucritive and recommendable careers for my own young children...how about a career where you can boldly lie to people and keep getting paid for it?!?! So tops of my list are; 1. Airline desk staff. Work every other week and lie to passengers about departure times 2. Weatherpersons. It will be sunny today ...great news, we have a tornado touching down on your house...tomorrow will be sunny amd clear...Nuff said. :) know car salespeople are on many peoples lists but you can always walk away/negotiate with them. What other professions love the deceipt? |
Politicians and televangelists is/are too easy.
I say outsourcing consultants, just ahead of ISO certification bodies who just nudge out big CPA firms. |
Poker players.
|
Politicians....or prostitutes....but I repeat myself.
|
In my experience politicians, real estate agents then retail sales. I might be missing something but those three are definitely in the top five.
|
Advertising.
Investment banking. Some sales roles. TV talking heads. Talk radio. Some religious positions. |
Lawyers!!!!!! The GLOVE don't fit!!
|
Politicians are more liars that anything else.
The weatherman or local meteorologists don't lie, thay are just wrong a lot. They just ignore that the forecast they gave the night before was way off. Predicting the weather is just guessing and using some science to make good guesses. Car rental agents are also big liars. They will tell you a car is reserved for you but when you show up there is no car available. They work it the other way as well. Our company pilot asked me to rent a car for him in Baton Rough, LA and I called every rental agency. They all said n cars at all in the entire city except a $135 per day Mustang. He landed and walked right up and rented a econo-box for $49 per day at an agency that told me they had no cars. |

Well I dont see recommending my daughters become prostitutes...I am Canadian, not Floridian. Actually American-Australian-Canadian but definately not Floridian.
Why prostitutes? Bait-and-switch i guess? Otherwise it seems services-for-value exchange, no? Disregard human trafficking, slavery from this topic of course. That is a separate, disgusting and impardonable crime. |

Your daughters would only have a limited time window as well. I say skip the whole idea. :) <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/J---aiyznGQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
Anyone with power. May it be big or small....

Clients have run the gamut from governmental agencies, education, traditional banks, investment firms, legal firms, insurance, health care, retail, online services - many other sectors. It's not so much relevant to a profession or sector as it is levels or roles within that sector that seems to have this affliction. They're easy to spot, they're wearing knee pads carrying chap-stick and KY dispensers on their keyrings. Typically managers or senior managers with their eye on Director.
It's all about the politics. But if I had to say per-capita, education and health care. Easily the worst. The most honest, the guys I work with at the investment houses. Some of the most detailed and honest tech guys I've ever had the pleasure of working with. |
Equipment leasing.
And any other similar, high turnover sales industry: Filled with commission based salespeople who likely won't be at their employer in 12-14 months. The only incentive is to get the buyer/lessee to sign on the dotted line and collect the commission. |

Automatic transmission shops.
Black hole. They don't fix a thing. Rebuild. They fix it all. |

I just don't see prostitutes making this list. In fact, they come off to me as pretty honest. Heck, my wives all told me I had a big one. Liars, the lot. |
Historically politicians and lawyers top the list trading one and two, followed by used car salesmen and insurance agents.
Politicians are more often than not lawyers, so spots 1 and 2 are essentially occupied by the same profession. |
