HELP - Unlock a BMW X5

Help.....
A very good friend of mine is stuck, key locked in his X5, spare key 4 hours away by car, and a dead battery....

Locksmith couldn't get in.

Any ideas?

If the keys are locked inside the spare key is the only way to get in without breaking in. If you can get the spare key the dead battery is the real issue.

A friend of mine that had a BMW tried the twist the key and pull the door handle trick for 30 minutes and all he got was a sore wrist. Without power the key would not unlock the door. He finally crawled underneath the car and located a wire for the tail light. He determined it was not the ground side with a multi-meter. He applied a battery charger to that little wire in a trickle charge mode and waited a few minutes. That provided enough juice to unlock the door so he could get the engine compartment open and replace the battery.

Battery dead. Dealer said they can't open, call a locksmith.

He's trying to find another locksmith.

At this point I'd probably break a window......

Good thread...made me think of an "after the horses have escaped" idea...have extra wires to the battery that could be reached in case it happens again?

Like the tail light wire idea...might take a spell on trickle, but better than breaking a window.

Tail light would only be 'hot' if it was on. I was thinking trailer wiring connections, but the connector is inside his car.

I know that this is not helpful but curious how this happened? Only because I did not think you could lock the car w/o the key. I'm always afraid of this type of thing happening on a new car.

So much for "superior German engineering"...with this probably happening often, there should be a wiring solution. Or, something as simple as the early 911 design...driver's side door could only be locked with the key.

My "inferior" Ford product will unlock manually should the battery go dead...

Go fk yourself and your Ford. Can you really not resist trolling in any thread about anything? The guy is in a bind and needs help. You're giving Mustang drivers an extremely bad name. Making Porsche drivers look like saints. Unbelievable...

Making the 4 hour (8 hours both ways) drive would cost less than a new window, I'd think.

You can hook the hood release above the headlight near the turn signal. Once you hook the hood release cable it takes a bit of a tug to
release the latch.

On the right side of course.

You can also remove the right wheel and the fender liner where it attaches in the front. Pull it back and you can grab the hood release cable.

Once you release the hood attach jumper cables to the positive jump terminal and ground.

Damn - again? Really? Bagging on German engineering on a Porsche/BMW website? Are you really that attention starved? Seriously, let it go man.

This could happen if, for example, you had programmed the car to lock the doors after it has been sitting with the ignition off for a certain period of time. (Even if the key is in the ignition.)
