Ford GT
218mph in 1/2 mile and 273mph in the mile. What's really shocking is how quickly that second half mile goes past, but then at an avg of about 240, I guess that should only be about 7.5 secs. Hah, and I thought the time that I went 150 I was cruising.

Seems like a total wallet race unless you build / tune yourself? No skill, is there?

There's a fair a bit of skill in it, our manager used to run the Texas mile in built 996 and 997s. He talks about experiencing all 4 wheels spinning at 190mph like its no big deal.

I would not live long if I were allowed to have that power. And therein lies the answer to why I'm not rich. Self preservation!

I like his girlfriend. Couldn't give a half a **** about the rest of it. Drag racing a Lambo sort of misses the point of owning a Lambo. I lump these guys into the same category as the average new sportbike owner.
Somewhere, they all lost the plot. JR |

I just can't even imagine those levels of power and speed OUT OF A STREET LEGAL VEHICLE WITH AC AND A RADIO.

I can appreciate the physics and engineering needed to do 240 MPH is 1/2 a mile. Wow. In the end I still say so what. He opened his big checkbook and bought an impressive single purpose vehicle.
He has one very fast car that is great for a drag race. He can't make a trip to the grocery store. He can't drive it on a 1,000 mile road trip. It is useless for anything but that drag strip run and it did that one thing quite well. Meh. It was his money and his car. I am glad to see it driven and he is enjoying his car. A top fuel dragster goes 300+ in a 1/4 mile and needs an engine rebuild after every run. Impressive to see and I can't imagine driving one.

Per the guy, it's got AC, Stereo, Navigation, and can be driven to the grocery store.

Want to accelerate quickly? Build a dragster. As fast as this car is, it's nothing compared to something designed for that specific purpose, even a lower class car. It's like the guy's that build Hayabusas into street race bikes. Yeah, you can make one go fast but the last thing I'd pick for that purpose would be something heavy, with a short wheelbase and high CofG. Add an extended swingarm and all of the other crap they do and it can still be driven on the street. Sort of. But it ruins it for normal riding. Not that 1 in 100 Hayabusa owners can ride worth a ****... When I got out of exotic cars, part of the reason why was the growing popularity of them with guys that were 90% douchebag/10% driver. Have a fat wallet? Buy a Ferrari. Have a fat wallet and a bigger ego? Buy a Lambo. Grow up playing video games? Mod the hell out of it. Can't drive it? No problem, there's always Cars and Coffee. That guy appears to be a world-class dumbass. There's a reason companies like Hennessy put real drivers into their cars when they attempt this sort of crap.
The "track" is way too short, too. JR |

I like the Ford GT but it's like "eh?" why did they ruin the car? It's no good for real driving now.

Thats some crazy speed junkie stuff!
Another that blows my mind are the junkies on motorcycles. There's the modded but still street rideable busting insane speeds shown on youboob. Winding up to 240 mph in momentary mental lapse, on public roads. Would think the standing start numbers are as crazy. You want a rush for a nominal cost? Suzuki Hayabusa out of the box, 1,340 cc / 0-60 launch in 2.5 sec / Don't know what it travels to reach but tops 248 mph or so.

In a couple of hours I'll be taking a run in an old, slow, and obsolete green Mustang. First, a nice late breakfast served by a young cutie who wears yoga pants well. Then a nerves jangling run of 35 miles or so on a crowded I-5 where I'll be lucky to get much past 70. Then some stop & go Salem Oregon traffic that'll make me consider buying an automatic next time.
Finally, into a nice air conditioned pool hall. Low volume tunes on the Hall's radio, the clicking of pool balls, with the crash of a well broken rack happening once in a while. Automotive reality. 240 MPH? Absolutely must be a thrill ride. At this stage of my life, I'm not interested...
