Old B/W tube-driven TV needs new home...

Here's a goofy one for you: I've got an old B/W tube TV (not just CRT, but the tuner/receiver are all electron-tube "electronics") in the garage that needs a new home. Dropping off at the electronics recycling depo seems like a waste of vintage technology.

Anybody know anybody who might want this thing? Free to good home (you pay shipping if not local; if local to PDX area I'll drop off or meet you half-way).

My guess is that the tubes will be pulled for other things like stereos.

I'd totally take it if it were on the other coast. Sounds perfect for our MCM den.

I would think that a vintage/resale shop would take it, either on consignment or for their own display purposes.

Antique stores often sell that sort of thing too.

Pictures...

OK - Here are the pictures. This is a GE model 1543. My uncle bought this for my grandparents in the late '50s. My grandparents gave it to my parents when they bought their first house. I remember using this TV until ~1978 when it started shrinking the picture vertically and nobody local to us could repair it at the time. It sat in my mom's garage until recently. Not sure of current status.

Bumping in case there are any takers for this one; otherwise I think I'll try Burlingame TV locally (I hear they fix old stuff like this).

Any idea on what shipping on the beast would be? Working on convincing the Mrs, but I think it would be perfect for our den even if it doesn't work.

I took a stab at estimating freight with Fedex to zip 29401 - It's ~$120 going ground. I'm guessing that real freight cost will be ~$200 to ship when properly packaged.

I notice for some reason the connector on back of pic tube is off. Also be careful, High Voltage is a killer in these things, and needs to be discharged in you take it apart......

But it would make a cool aquarium? How to Convert an Old TV Into a Fish Tank: 15 Steps

Hadn't thought about going the aquarium route; I'm sure the cats would enjoy that.

Local old-time TV/radio shop doesn't want (even for free). Last chance - If no takers by Monday evening it's going to the recycler...

Pull the tubes and list the numbers on them before you do. I know there's some people here who like tubes.. including me.

There might be one or two usable for guitar guys, if any are good.

Actually... I see a capacitor I might like, tooo...

If those caps are good, there could be fair money in them with the vintage electronics and amp guys.

OK - Will pull tubes and that big orange cap and will post numbers (and will be sure to discharge everything first!).

I imagine that anything that would have "normally" been charged has long ago discharged from non-use.

How big is the thing? It's been a tough sell with the Mrs. so far unfortunately.

Since you're in Portland I'm sure it would sell quickly on Craigslist, even with the parts Wolfe mentioned pulled. Or if you put up a curb alert with vintage and MCM in the title someone would surely appreciate it.
