Thanks for the info javadog

I use the emulsion blender for most hot stuff. Otherwise my 'cheap' blender takes 2-3 batches if the liquid is chunky. My setup isnt great with ice though, I see that as a nice to have with a better unit.

Whatever you do....what..ever..you do, do not start it with the variable speed on "Hi" or you'll have food on your ceiling.

You do know that this thing can keep that from happening, right?

I was saying that the lid will blow off, which is why you hold it down. But someone using it for the first time would not expect the amount of power that the Vitamix has, and may turn it on with variable speed cranked all the way up.

masraum 07-23-2016 04:27 PM

Hahah, OK. My lid seems to clamp on pretty well, and ours is computer controlled, so even if you set it to 10 and then turn it on, it ramps up (quickly, but not instantly at max RPM). You do have to be careful if you're adding stuff down the small hole in the lid, stuff will shoot out of the top.

We bought the extra containers, so we have 32oz, 32oz dry (different blade) and 64oz.

It was a Christmas present. It is a pretty amazing bit of kit and will blend the hell out of anything.

GWN7 07-23-2016 04:31 PM

Villaware my ex bought it for me 9-10 years ago. (She liked me then) She researched blenders before buying it. Makes great blended margaritas.

Just looked it up: Moderno Pro Infinity Blender - 1 1/4 Horsepower 1000 watts power. It was around $200 at the time.

*We have discontinued the Villaware Moderno Pro Blender due to poor customer service on the behalf of the manufacturer. *

Looks like what was a good buy a few years ago is now a good bye.

How does a blender make you soup?

javadog 07-24-2016 04:04 AM

Some soups require you to turn chunks of cooked vegetables into a smooth puree. Vichyssoise, some versions of potato and leek soup, some versions of mushroom soup, leek or lettuce soup... there's a fairly long list. You cook the ingredients, blend them, then finish the soup on the stove.

"How can the same machine heat soups and make frozen desserts?

The Vitamix® blades reach speeds fast enough to create friction heat that can bring ingredients to steaming hot in four to six minutes. The Vitamix machine also quickly crushes and blends ice and frozen ingredients before enough friction heat is created to melt the mixture."

Waring here - very heavy duty and parts are easy to get if the need should ever arise. It blends everything you throw in it.

You can go to a Thrift store and find a vintage all metal housing Oster Commercial Blender for under $10.00. I have two of them. They work great, and built the old fashioned way..to last forever.

Now I used to be just like you boyz before I found the true religion of the Thrifts...the thing is you can better made stuff that is vintage made in America then the right out of the box new stuff made in China. And you can get it for only a few $$$$$$.

So what would you rather have a tank of an appliance and money in your pocket or a so so new piece made in China AND NO MONEY IN YOUR POCKET. The choice is yours to make...

Yep. Our blender is an Osterizer Galaxie VIII that my dad got sometime in the '60s before he met my mom. Hardly used, works and looks great!

My new Ninja has the safety protection such that fingers cannot be inserted while running. The container is inverted when set to run. The old style does not have that protection and prying fingers of children/grandchildren can end up in the container. Okay so I am overthinking this but I do like the safety features of some newer models...

sugarwood 07-26-2016 06:14 AM

Needless overengineering. Who is going to stick his fingers into a running blender?

aschen 07-26-2016 09:12 AM

I cant believe I care enough about blenders to post not once but twice in this thread. Arnt new blenders a metric ass ton more quiet than the older ones?

My mother is into kitchen paraphernalia and it they type of person who buys 300$ pots and similar. I remember when I was young (80s) when she ran the blender a small trickle of blood would come from your ears.

Does anyone really use all 7 ... 10 (?) speeds on one of those blenders?

And more importantly - remember the frog in the blender? :)

Would you be interested in buying some land that I have on the Sea of Tranquility? I will let it go real cheap. It has got ocean views and is right on the sand.

It would be incredibly hard to put your fingers into this one while it's running. For one, the on switch isn't a hard switch, if you let it go the motor stops. The other factor is that the vessel tapers inward and you'd really have to try for it while ignoring the fact that the spinning blades of doom are obviously running

If you could stop yourself from buying more un-needed shoes, you could probably retire from this career in grifting. You might even be able to save up enough green to buy a real blender for yourself. Smoothies are your friend when your teeth start falling out.

How's your return policy? Costco's is hard to beat.

Costco sells Blentec as well as Vitamix.
Vitamix is fine if you don't mind chewing......
I got a Blendtec after I returned the Vitamix.

It even makes ice cream.

Yes and no. We do go all of the way up to 10, and we do use speeds in between. It's nice to gradually increase and gradually decrease the speed. You wouldn't use speed 10 for everything

Weird, must have been something wrong with yours.

Test them yourself.
I understand that Vitamix has a 3:1 return ratio to Blentex at Costco.

ilelihanen 07-29-2016 08:10 PM

I have an old school Vitamix. To be honest, it's probably more blender than most people will need.

javadog 07-30-2016 05:01 AM

I find it odd that people return blenders, not because they don't work at all, but because they perceive something else might be better.

I had a girlfriend that worked trade shows at Costco and she said blenders (even high end blenders) are a cool gifts that get returned often. She said Costco expects a 5% return on most blenders.
Costco has a great return policy (perhaps the best in retail) so take it home and try it is pretty common.

With my Vitamix the vegetable seemed nicely chopped (sharp blades) but with Blendtec the harder vegetables seems smoother (flat blades that pulverize and more power) no need to chew.

The Blendtec also has per-programed buttons so reputability is a given. Set it and walk away.

There are several Vitamix models with pre-programmed buttons. Mine has several programs, and we use them.

Returning to the top of blenders. I own a Hamilton Beach BBF600 at work and at home. It's a great blender for a larger scale production as well as a big family. I highly recommend it. The control panel is easy to understand and the overall power exceeds the typical mass market one. Overall a very good addition to your kitchen

I pay $10 for a used one at the thrift store every 4 or 5 years. But I have no need for a great blender.

Well...I have bought a Vitamix 5000 and a Vitamix 5200 plus a VM Dry Blender Jar to go with..for $10 down at the Thrift.....Both are pretty much like nu...the Jar is nu.

javadog 12-03-2019 11:56 AM

Vegas should give up the gambling and hookers angle and promote their thrift shops.
