Blender - need a new one

My old one bit the dust after 15 years.

I use it every day so I don't mind paying a little more for quality.

Looks Vitamix VS Blendtec is the typical choice.

What do you guys have?

Gogar 07-20-2016 04:23 PM

Vitamix is the way

rusnak 07-20-2016 04:37 PM

I have an old school Vitamix. To be honest, it's probably more blender than most people will need.

LWJ 07-20-2016 05:37 PM

Costco vitamix.

Shaun @ Tru6 07-20-2016 05:44 PM

Vitamix

jyl 07-20-2016 05:57 PM

Vitamix. Look for a refurbished one.

Danimal16 07-20-2016 05:59 PM

Vitamix.

creaturecat 07-20-2016 06:00 PM

variable speed vitamix.
refurbished is a way to save quite a few bucks.

look 171 07-20-2016 06:04 PM

Vitamix is the GT3 of blenders.

gr8fl4porsche 07-20-2016 06:47 PM

For a 2 to 3 serving smoothie type mix, the Nutribullet works fantastic.

It is not a full size blender but we do find ourselves using it almost daily.

Steve Viegas 07-20-2016 08:18 PM

I decided to try something different. Waring MX1200 It is incredibly powerful.

Just got a Ninja Auto IQ 1000W at Costco for $100 can. The name says it all. Fast, efficient.:)

Will It Blend? | Presented by Blendtec

berettafan 07-21-2016 07:13 AM

neighbor has a vitamix.

I got the ninja.

ninja does the job.

if you enjoy the feel of quality and are willing to pay for it the vitamix is one of those things where quality is so apparent it shames products around it.

flipper35 07-21-2016 07:30 AM

My sister has a Vitamix and uses it all the time. We have an upper end Ninja and it works great for us but my sister would probably wear it out.

red-beard 07-21-2016 07:32 AM

We have a Breville 800XL. It is a 1000 Watt Blender with a cast iron internal base. We had some trouble with smaller blenders burning out (and up!) and I wanted something heavy duty. It has provided YEARS of great service.

Problem: It is only two speed and when putting it on the high speed you better be holding the top down tightly. If the mixture is hot, then you better hold it down with a towel!

scottmandue 07-21-2016 07:46 AM

We don't use a blender much but if we every get another one (currently have a name brand blender that spends most of it's time in the cupboard) it will be a Vitamix.

rcecale 07-21-2016 07:50 AM

Variable speed VitaMix.

In addition to being an excellent blender, it can actually make ice cream and/or piping hot soup, despite it's lack of a heating or cooling element. Quite versatile...

We did the Ninja. 1000w version, for about a hundy. I've never used the VitaMix, but I can't imagine its a 3-500 dollar better mousetrap

You people are really something to behold....as the old adage holds so true for you all...a fool and his money are soon parted.

You can go to a Thrift store and find a vintage all metal housing Oster Commercial Blender for under $10.00. I have two of them. They work great, and built the old fashioned way..to last forever.

Now I used to be just like you boyz before I found the true religion of the Thrifts...the thing is you can better made stuff that is vintage made in America then the right out of the box new stuff made in China. And you can get it for only a few $$$$$$.

So what would you rather have a tank of an appliance and money in your pocket or a so so new piece made in China AND NO MONEY IN YOUR POCKET. The choice is yours to make...

jyl 07-22-2016 05:07 AM

Ninja doesn't last. We went through two bases and two jars in three years. The fussy lid also broke. They are cheap but that is false economy.

Vintage Oster blender looks cool and is adequate for light users.

You gotta realize tabs not everybody is like you. Many people like brand new, more compact and modern features. The old ones are clunky tanks and take up counter space. Like some people can cut their fingers using a power mower for the first time, similarly an old blender can present the same problem to the less adept.

rcecale 07-22-2016 06:38 AM

Yeah, but can your $10 Oster make you a bowl of soup in less than 10 minutes and then, while you're enjoying your fresh, home made soup, turn right around and make you a bowl of ice cream, for desert? I think not, pardner! :p

I hear ya but play with one and you might think otherwise.

I won't spend that much on a blender but I get why some would.

even a blender recommendation turns into a narcissistic rant

amazing

berettafan 07-22-2016 07:41 AM

ask him about smokers.

just warn Wayne he'll need to up his bandwidth beforehand.

VincentVega 07-22-2016 08:16 AM

What do you guys use your blender for? We have a 'cheap' $75 whatever it is. Makes a smoothy, puree something once in a while, frozen drink..

no dont ask him about smokers..or his coffee maker..just dont

vash 07-22-2016 08:22 AM

i went with an $100 Breville. we just dont use a counter top blender enough to justify a Blentec or Vmix. the thing works fine whipping up a chopped ice margarita, and the RARE milkshake. i got the thing to make red chili enchilada sauce. (<---which is the swiss army knife of mexican sauces)

for soups, i get lazy and use a stick blender. i got some industrial WARE brand and it kicks ass.

Rodsrsr 07-22-2016 08:30 AM

I haven't used a blender in years and make protein shakes every day. I use the cuisinart smart stick. Faster to use, way less cleaning, and less money.

Well somebody has to pay retail...and you can go down to your local store and pop out the cash to buy one. :D

FLYGEEZER 07-22-2016 10:43 AM

Juice Weasel !

rusnak 07-22-2016 10:58 AM

The reason people buy a Vitamix is for the versatility and speed. The longer blades will crush and puree ice without the ice sticking to the sides of the container. It'll last forever, and the variable speed makes precision mixing easy.

As I said already, it's way more blender than most people will ever need. It's a commercial food prep tool. Like all other tools, if you don't know why you need it, then you don't need it. If you like cool stuff, look at the vintage Vitamix blenders. They are sort of like old Electrolux vacuums. Way over engineered and fascinating.

red-beard 07-22-2016 11:40 AM

You are arguing over the internet about...a Blender

And the shoes, my god, never ever mention shoes.

Another vote for a Vitamix. Apart from all of the other benefits noted, it also blends things better than other blenders. There's a little science involved in the blade design, the shape and dimensions of the sides of the container, etc.

This is one of those buy-it-once decisions. It's also one of those tools that no serious kitchen should be without.

JR

VincentVega 07-22-2016 01:23 PM

I guess I'm dense. Serious kitchen tool, ok, for what? I make tons of sauces and if I have to do thing in 2 batches I'm ok with that. No argument on my end, really just curious what I'm missing. I usually dont cook for more than 4, I can see production work necessitating great power/capacity.

javadog 07-22-2016 01:34 PM

Chile purees, used in Mexican cooking. Mexican sauces, as in sauces used for enchiladas, or assorted salsas. Soups and certain sauces used in French cooking. Liquification of certain ingredients used in cooking certain dishes, like a French cassoulet. Etc.

Then you have various mixed drinks, shakes and malts, etc.

JR

vash 07-22-2016 02:37 PM

enchilada sauce for sure.

emulsions also. but i more than likely reach for my stick blender.
