some good advice i just getting older and thought the bentley would be smooth fast ride but i think the pcar might be best choice

Ferraripete 08-02-2016 12:48 PM

for grins, go drive a late model jag xkr coupe w/ 510 hp. take the traction control off...it will make your eyes wide!

also the prettiest car in the parking lot accolades wherever you go. oddly reliable too!

Well, it was a fun thread, anyway. :)

Which Pcar?

You listed two different ones, a 996 and a Cayman (987).

I would get a newer Cayman - the one without the IMS. More of a driver's car than the 996. Bentley comes last.
:)

My wife can't decide between a 997 Turbo, 991, Bentley Continental GT and Mercedes G655/G63. Wish I could buy her one of each.

greglepore 08-02-2016 05:02 PM

I wanna marry Motion...but I have no shot.

(and gwagens are stupid)

Want a smooth fast ride that is a few years old and already way past the depreciation curve?

Mercedes S series. 2009, 2010 ish. $50k.

More can than the Porsche, and more true luxury than the Bentley. After losing 60+% of it's value in the first 3 years, they won't drop much any more.

2010 Aston Martin Vantage, $50k

More can than the Porsche, and more fun than the Bentley. After losing 60+% of it's value in the first 3 years, they won't drop much any more.

Worked for a towing company in Naples Florida a few years ago. Towed cars for Porsche and The English oriented dealership. Bentley, Rolls, Aston Martin, Land Rover and Jag, great customers. Picked up a nice Bentley one day and expressed how nice it was to the service guy we dealt with. His reaction was priceless...."piece of junk". That dealer made us a ton of money every month.

speeder 08-02-2016 07:59 PM

Bentleys are just almost unbelievable pieces of junk. The cheapest Hyundai is made better.

I owned a RR. If you can afford 250k why would pay 200k for a used one. People who own them dont maintain them because in a couple of years they trade them.

Some Porsches are just too generic.

aschen 08-02-2016 08:45 PM

I might be a weirdo but I couldn't drive a Bentley without feeling embarrassed. Every time I see one it seems like conspicuous consumption. I get a crazy amount of attention driving my exige, which don't love but at least it's mostly sports car people. I can only imagine how much attention a Bentley would bring, and it seems like the worst kind

If I wanted oppulant I thing an under the radar S class or 7 series would be more my style.

Not really. They keep dropping like rocks. I have one 10 yrs older than that, was close to 100k new, grab one anywhere in decent shape for 5-7500. Best luxury car deal on the planet.

Craig T 08-03-2016 05:44 AM

I'd avoid Mercedes like the plague. I bought my wife a new SL550 in 2006. Biggest POS ever! It was in the shop so much my new neighbor told another neighbor I was MB salesman. When i asked him how he mad that assumption, he said..."because you come home in a different color C-class every week". At one year I bit the bullet, ate HUGE deprediation, and traded it for a 997. She put 80k miles on it with zero problems outside routine maintenance.

I can't imagine that a Bentley would get that much attention in the Woodlands. Isn't there a bunch of money there?

They certainly don't here in the Riveroaks/Montrose/Midtown area.

aschen 08-03-2016 08:01 AM

Yeah woodlands is pretty fancy pants, though not my hood. I think I didn't quite express my opinion on this right. There are certainly Bentleys around here, actually probably more than my British MR2 and they probably don't attract that much attention. I just wouldn't want to drive one or really be seen in one. It seems ostentatious to me. I wouldn't wear $600 shoes or a gold rolex either. I don't really get the draw of these cars. A loaded accord already seems pretty fancy to me. Unicorn horn dash inlays and finest leather dont do anything for me.

These are my problems though. If you like the cars, you shouldent care what others think
