That's 3 choices... 996 (Carrera), Cayman (987), and Bentley CGT.

Cayman.

Craig T 08-01-2016 02:24 PM

 I just searched some Bently's CGT's for sale. Damn...That's some serious depreciation. Several low mileage nice ones in the $50K range. Do they self destruct at 10 years and 50K miles or what????

wildthing 08-01-2016 02:27 PM

For 50k I'd get a 997.2 S.

jhynesrockmtn 08-01-2016 02:43 PM

With that money, I'd look at a 996 Turbo, a very nice looking convertible version just sold for $39k on BAT

I like the Bentley option. Universes apart from a Porsche.

A touch of street cred, don't you think?

doug_porsche I see a used water pump for $88 on Google.

With those choices I have to wonder 'to what end?'.

They are very different cars, what do want? A daily driver? A car that might hold it'd value? A GT touring car? So many questions arise...

Bentley

996 Turbo or 987 Cayman.

Drive both and see which one speaks to you.

A couple of years ago, when I was in the market, I drove a 2001 tt. It was fast, and a nice car, but it didn't really do it for me. Then I drove a Boxster/Cayman and that did. I ended up with a Boxster S with some great options and I'm very happy.

I'm sure the Bentley's great, but sounds boring to me.

The Bentley will cost you 2x in parts/repairs over the 996. Fuggetaboutit. (And it will need both, often).

berettafan 08-02-2016 05:35 AM

a rolls club member once told me when they have club events inevitably one or two vehicles suffer mechanical problems.

they refer to it as 'failing to proceed'

I thought that was comical.

Rap stars and NFL linemen drive Bents...scoot in a Cayman.

speeder 08-02-2016 08:06 AM

Bentleys are for rich people who can afford them new and just don't give a damn. Even still, they are beautiful POS cars.

A Porsche is a completely different ball of wax. And as noted, your price range would buy a nice 997.2, not a 996. Nice 996s are well under $20k.

Everything that falls off of British trash is of the highest quality.

Craig T 08-02-2016 08:22 AM

Nothing made in the U.K. is reliable. Heck, my first wife was British...even she was unreliable with wiring issues.

berettafan 08-02-2016 09:22 AM

boy no question i'd go 997 if they're in that range. beautiful car.

cockerpunk 08-02-2016 09:30 AM
