You just aren't understanding me. I never once mentioned whether people can like or dislike a certain make or model of car. I am not a fan of the 986 or 996, but I don't slam them on the board. Why? Because they're Porsches, that's why.

I am saying - and feel free to copy and paste this to your desktop for future reference - THIS IS A PORSCHE FORUM!!! Therefore, only PORSCHE photos and conversation should be allowed. If you want to tell me a story about how your 993 blew the doors off of a Lambo or Ferrari, I'm all ears. But don't go on about how beautiful and fun and nice and spiffy and blah blah blah Ferraris and Lambos are ... I just don't care.

If you want to talk about those things, go ahead and do it somewhere else. This is a PORSCHE board and I think that we need to make sure that it stays that way.

I mean, with Porsche building an SUV, loyalty to the marque is all but finished. Today, while waiting at the Inn, I watched at least 20 Porsches go by without the drivers even acknowledging the massive gathering of Stuttgart hardware in the Inn parking lot. You know what that says to me? It says loyalty to the marque is dead.

As the son of a Porsche mechanic, THAT MAKES ME SICK. We need to band together and keep the foundation intact. How many Le Mans wins? Who dominated IMSA and Can-AM. That's right, PORSCHE. How many people who drive 996s and Boxsters know about the history of the company that builds their cars. I can guarantee you not that many.

Whether you like it or not, we're a family. I may be the black sheep, but at least my principles are still intact.

Mr9146 01-01-2003 09:19 PM

As for the Italian heaps being on the run ... that's cool. It was nice seeing them there. However, they have no place on this board. The Becks - whom I respect to the ends of the Earth - are paying homage to the marque with the work they do. Besides, the more 914 trannys that Randy breaks, the more mine is worth.

But seriously folks, the family Beck are truly amazing people who have done nothing but good for the Porsche marque - all of their Porsche replicas carry Porsche powerplants. Remember that. I may be a little harsh, but I'm the guy who's gonna die with a Porsche crest on my back. I want to make sure that we don't forget our heritage.

three illuminations for you, Mr9146:

1) Lots of Porsche buyers know nothing about the history. Who cares? Porsche doesn't. They just want to sell cars. "History" masquerades as ad material in most corporations. If enthusiasts buy into it, that doesn't necessarily perpetuate the brand.

2) Given your harsh criticism of anything un-Porsche today, did you have a problem with the Renegade (sp?) V8 914, or just half a problem?

3) You say "You just aren't understanding me." Given a great day of great car fun, you're correct, I don't understand you.

Mr9146 01-01-2003 09:44 PM

The Renegade car gets no love from me because it doesn't have a Porsche motor. It's like putting a Chevy motor in a Ford ... sacreligious.

I had a great time today. I can't wait to do it again. But the point ... and I just don't see how people can miss this ... the point is:

THIS IS A PORSCHE BOARD!!! I DON'T LOG ON HERE TO SEE PICTURES OF LAMBOS AND FERRARIS. THEY DON'T BELONG HERE BECAUSE THIS IS A PORSCHE BOARD. IF YOU WANT TO SEE PICTURES AND HEAR STORIES ABOUT ITALIAN HARDWARE, GO TO AN ITALIAN HARDWARE APPRECIATION SITE. BUT PLEASE DON'T BRING THAT CRAP INTO MY HOUSE.

Finally, history is not something that you "buy into." As a Porsche owner, if you don't understand that, I pity you. I remember a time when owning a Porsche was more than just a status symbol. I am sorry to see those days are gone.:(

Joe Bob 01-01-2003 09:51 PM

Sounds like we got us a Troll.....

Jack Olsen 01-01-2003 09:52 PM

Uh, Mr9146, newsflash: this isn't your house.

There are lots of enthusiasts on this board who are grateful for the pictures from the event. We're not going to get too worked up about the occasional picture of another performance car, just as we're not going to get all worked up about 914-owners posting on the 911 board.

You're welcome here, of course. But I looked, and I can't find the point where anyone in this thread asked for the lecture.

maxnine11 01-01-2003 09:56 PM

mr9146, there was no 'talk' about lambos, ferraris etc., until you started dissing them. There are two pictures of a couple of lamborginis, that were involved in the run, which is what this thread is about. If you see a picture of a particular car you do not like...USE YOUR SCROLL BAR.....whether it is an italian car picture, a boxster picture, a picture of someone's garage floor, or their family cat...if you don't like it, move on!!.. Obviously, this board is not 100 % tech, like it or not. Read the topics you like, skip the posts you don't like. After reviewing your contributions, i see you are a better critic than a technician. MAX

ZAMIRZ 01-01-2003 10:06 PM

Mr9146, I would much rather have all those lambo owners be a part of this BBS then your ignorant, uneducated ass so please take your lame comments and bull**** claims elsewhere. Oh yeah, and post some pictures of your Volkswagen so we can marvel at your "lambo beater".

See you on stunt,

amir:rolleyes:

KevinP73 01-01-2003 10:13 PM

Let the spanking begin !!!

http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/spankA.gif
Look on the bright side MR9146, your number of posts has just exceeded your IQ !!

Mr9146 01-01-2003 10:47 PM

It seems that I have struck a nerve.

Mr. Olson - The reference to "my house" is purely figurative; your response was very level-headed and I do owe you an apology for the tirade.

Max - My computer is not as fast as my car and it takes a long time to load pictures. If I'm gonna wait for pictures, on a Porsche board I would hope that I'm waiting for pictures of Porsches. As far a my being a critic and technician, all I can say is that I built my own Porsche when I was 16, I worked of 4 cam racecars when I was 18, and I work on 911s now. But I don't mind you pulling my chain and getting me all worked up ... without passion, what do we have? Oh, and I do scroll.

ZAMIRZ - Bring it. I just ordered a new set of tires, and I need you to help me adjust my rearview mirror.

Kevin - Nice animation. Is 11 a high IQ?

I just want to let you all know that I don't mind being the common enemy. I spoke my piece and now I'm done. And for those of you out there who wanted to know, my shoe leather tastes just fine.

Mr9146 01-01-2003 10:59 PM

PS: If you are interested in my car, Amir, then do a forum search for the Turkey Run II video. My car is the one directly in front of the camera. There are also some stills scattered throughout the video, although they hardley do justice. Oh, and what car do you take up to stunt, I need to know who to look for. :)

ZAMIRZ 01-01-2003 11:08 PM

I have an '83 SC, bone stock with low compression on the left bank. I'm up on Stunt about 3-4 times a week, sometimes even more. I usually do Stunt to Latigo and then get back on Mulholland and hit Dry Canyon before heading back out of the canyon, when are you there? Funny, because I believe I know someone who's friends with you, I believe he lives off Winnetka close to Ventura just north of the 101 and his screenname is Stealth_03 or something along those lines on a differnet forum. He actually referred me to your dad at TLG. You seem like a nice guy, you're probably just a keyboard warrior. Have a nice day, and I hope to see you out there sometime this weekend.

later,

amirSmileWavy

p.s. if you have AIM, get online and IM me, ZAMIRZ.

dd74 01-01-2003 11:20 PM

Mr.9146: Turkey Run Vid.

Cool shots and video. Nice 914, too. I've heard of the Turkey Run, but don't know where and when it takes place.

Can you enlighten me? Looks fun.

BTW: any Lambos or F-cars there?;)

Mr9146 01-01-2003 11:52 PM

Amir - What is this AIM thing? Is that AOL instant message? I am ususally up at Stunt and Mulholland on Saturday and/or Sunday. I spend about a tank of gas just cruising the mountains, and I usually have my camera with me when I roll. You're right, my dad is Tony from TLG - but I don't claim to represent the business and I surely don't represent his points of view. I think that I'm a little too extreme even for his taste. As far as your friend who referred you to my pop, I don't know who you're talking about. If you had his name ...? Just know that my dad is THE MAN when it comes to air-cooled Porsches. And that is not a family bias.

DD74 - Thanks. And ... NO! There were no rolling Italian paperweights at the event. If you are interested in the Turkey Run, contact Dave B. at Road and Race - he posted on the Turkey Run thread - he and a guy named Kurt set the event up each year around Thanks-Day.

I truly am a keyboard warrior ... I guess that's what happens when you write for a living.

maxnine11 01-01-2003 11:58 PM

mr914....aaahhhh....the old culprit: slow download times.....that and possibly not much sleep last night (Being new years eve and all) enough to make anyone a little edgey.!! My critic/technician reference was in regard to your posts here on the board. (which is all I know you by) Now that you have given more background on yourself, I (and I'm sure, all) are looking forward to you funnelling some of your knowledge , experience, and passion into helping porsche owners with their technical problems. Please read this post in 'serious' mode, not 'sarcastic'. A fact of life on this bulletin board is that it is not " 100 % Porsche, 100% of the time" The balance of tech/dumb questions/good answers/ fluff/ nonsense etc.. may or may not please each person . From reading a few other bulletin boards, I think the balance here is usually not too bad. If you are pressed for time, (Or, if you have a slow modem/computer) one must be somewhat selective on threads/posts chosen. I am a 'visual' kind of guy, hence, enjoy pictures and assume most others do, but sometimes don't think too much about file size and download times.(I have been spoiled by high-speed internet and fairly quick computers since diving into the cyber world less than two years ago). Again, am looking forward to your experience and passion helping everyone keeping their cars where they belong, on the road!!!:) I think i should go to sleep now myself, so tomorrow isn't "one of those days".....happy new year all....MAX

9146

Cool! Thanks!

sammyg2 01-02-2003 07:31 AM

This board needs pictures of Lamborghinis more than it needs attitude from a 22 year old that thinks he knows everything. MR9146, I did a search and read all your previous posts. Your typing style is antagonistic and arrogant.
News flash: you don't know everything. lamborghinis will spank you bad with the right driver. Your car is not that special. There are plenty of people on this board who own cars that will spank you, and I am also sure there are plenty of drivers on this board that can whip up on you too.
Take a prozac, tone it down a little, and realize that just because it's different doesn't make it crap.

nostatic 01-02-2003 09:45 AM

isn't 9146 the one with the ink from the turkey day photos? See guys, we just don't have the necessary dedication, and are not worthy. We should probably find a VW board to go play on...

And I'll look at pictures of most any car if they relate to the topic at hand. I recall posting an AMC photo or two. Now where is that Lambo SUV photo? :)

This one?

Mr 9146, for a newbie you have quite the attitude. No one made you the board censor. I for one thought the pics were great. The only thing I envy is not being there for the run!

Rot 911 01-02-2003 10:02 AM

Oh and let me throw in a gratuitous non Porsche pic:

HEY Mr9146, THIS IS A 911 BOARD. Take your Italian-trash beater comments over to the 914 board, they can appreciate your polished humor much more than we can.

nostatic 01-02-2003 10:36 AM

Kurt, BFGoodrich? Get that nonsense off the board!

btw, nice car :D

Typical Fish 01-02-2003 10:41 AM

Kurt, EXCELLENT car. My dad had a bugeye back in the day, and it has always been a fave.

MMARSH 01-02-2003 11:22 AM

Kurt

Great looking Sprite. Those are neat little cars and have a unique personality and charisma as well.

stealthn 01-02-2003 01:13 PM

Boy, you guys sure showed him!

All comments/insults welcome.....

That New Years run looks awesome (Non Porsches included) It's sad to see the snow outside, and see the pictures of your run in beauty weather...I can't get anymore green with envy.

I'd post a picture of my bimmer, but I think the original intent of this thread has been tainted.

:)

Possibly, but I have seen the Nations cup with Lambourghini's and the right driver, and they still don't win over the GT3's... hehehhe (but their power is amazing... they just can't turn)

Zeke 01-02-2003 02:58 PM

RE: Mr9146, fortunately he doesn't typify the usual 914 owner. Don't send him over to the 914 board, just send him away. Or if he does come over to start some trash talk, JP, MikeZ, ChrisC, et al will handle him nicely. (Oh, and dont forget BradR, for Brad it'd be like fighting a blind folded, one-armed, one legged man.)

On the more serious side, looks like all had a good time and I'm glad there are these times when all of the cars are appreciated as a group. From 904 to 996, everyone gets to share. As it truns out, I was up on the westside of LA collecting parts, 'nother couple of miles and I coulda been there.

k9handler 01-02-2003 03:15 PM

someone from the event have video footage? I would love to see a clip or two.

cstreit 01-02-2003 03:31 PM

Good heavens... Kurt V, that's just going TOO far... :D :D

TRE Cup 01-02-2003 05:29 PM

I want to thank all the Pelicanites that participated in yesterday's new year's run. We had a blast with all the different cars, the great weather, and super attitudes. We have a Solvang Stomp in the works for the spring.
Stay tuned......

Bob's Flat-Six 01-02-2003 08:40 PM

Dave @ TRE, Thank You: Looking forward to the Solvang Stomp and some more of your high octane Coffee.
Thanks to all the Pelicanites too that put the smile back on my face.
Cheers everybody

Efrain68912 01-02-2003 09:03 PM

Kurt V, that's a GREAT looking Bugeye. I see a steel bonnet modified to til forward --- very trick. Have you gone to a 1275?

Emission 01-02-2003 09:22 PM

Personally, as an automobile enthusiast, I am happy to see ANY 'exotic' on the road. Nothing gets me going worse than a V12 locked in a climate controlled garage...

I am sorry I was asleep and missed the action... this weekend is supposed be in the 80's. Maybe we can re-create the drive during 'daylight' hours?

Mr9146 01-02-2003 11:44 PM

That New Year's day run was a total blast, but I don't remember seeing any of the Lambos actually "running." However, they do make good parking lot fodder.

And yes, I'm sure that there are plenty of Porsches who would whoop me this side of Tuesday, but my challenge to all Lambo owners still stands - Stunt Road, any day ... bring a stopwatch because I don't believe in crossing the double yellow unless the road is closed.

As far as me being a 22 know-it all, I may just be full of s**t; you never know. You call me cocky, I call it pride ... I swear, the Porsche set is going soft. Must have been over watered.:)

Oh, and don't take this forum stuff too personally y'all. On the internet, we're all just a bunch of keyboard warriors by the monitor-light.

And I do appreciate the cutting remarks ... a bad reaction is still better than no reaction - it's a good indication that there is still life out there.

-Mr9146

dd74 01-03-2003 12:00 AM

Mr9146

Actually, I like your candidness and/or brashness. Having a strong opinion is refreshing. What's best is you can take "the flaming" which earns my respect right there! ;)

Mr9146 01-03-2003 12:03 AM

Sammyg2 - Age means nothing. Considering you're a "mid-life crisis member," you should know that. And, in all seriousness, I am sorry if I offended you with my antagonistic, and arrogant style of writing. I guess that I have too much passion ... but never once did I make the claim that I know everything. In fact, I claim to KNOW nothing ... according to Socrates, that makes me a freakin' genius.

Oh, and I don't take drugs - not even asprin - but I do appreciate the recommendation. And as far as the news flash, well, I work at the paper so I'm pretty up to date on current events. Good lookin' out though.

k9handler 01-03-2003 12:19 AM

first thought...since when is being a paperboy really "work at the paper"?
Ha Ha

Just the first thing I thought when I read the above post.

Yep, the front tilt is a kit sold by Minimania. No more head banging or backaches while working on the engine! 1275 bumped up a bit in the horsepower dept. Never dynoed it, but we may be talking in excess of 100 horsepower!
