New Year's Day Run in So Cal

How many are going to make it? There's info regarding it on the Calif. regional board.
Cheers

Emission 12-30-2002 10:16 AM

Can you post the link?

Thanks!

MIK911 12-30-2002 11:12 AM

Jack Olsen 12-30-2002 11:50 AM

As I understand it, there are two runs that day. The TRE one is more (but not exclusively) Porsche-specific, and they meet up (I think?) with the traditional New Years Day event that is pretty huge.

Here's the thread on the TRE event.

Bob's Flat-Six 12-30-2002 12:03 PM

Thanks Jack for posting the link. And they do meet up with the Phil Hill's Rally Group. Sounds Cool to me

MIK911 12-30-2002 12:39 PM

Anyone have any more info on the TRE event New year's day?

scottb 12-30-2002 01:00 PM

Sounds like fun!

I really miss living in CA -- tomorrow, I'll be in the garage adjusting my valves.

Enjoy the ride

ZAMIRZ 12-31-2002 08:59 AM

I'm going to be attending a party at the base of Mulholland on the SFV side tonight, I'll meet you guys at the Reel Inn on PCH which is supposed to be the first stop on the run.

later,

amir;)

MIK911 12-31-2002 12:30 PM

What's the itinerary for the Reel Inn meeting? What time (approx) will the convoy get there? Couldn't find any info on mid-run meeting place on the TRE site.

thanks

Mike -

The link posted on Jack's thread (5th one above) has the time. If I remember correctly, it's between 9:00 and 9:30 AM.

Unfortunately, my sidekick REALLY wants to see the Rose Parade this year, so the run is out for me. Maybe next year.

Someone post pictures for me, please!!

ZAMIRZ 12-31-2002 01:00 PM

MIK,

Dave Bouzaglou from TRE sent me an email and said they'd be rolling in there somewhere around 9:15-9:45, I'll show up around 9:00 just in case the crew is early (doubt they will be, but better safe than sorry).

later,

amir

Bob's Flat-Six 12-31-2002 01:09 PM

Hi Mike: The Reel Inn is the first stop and the group is to leave North Hollywood at 9am, running Mulholland to Sepulveda to Sunset to the Coast. I'm going to guess around 9:45 would be a good time to be there?
Email me and give me your cell number and we'll call to let you know our progress.
Cheers Bob

MIK911 12-31-2002 04:10 PM

Thanks, guys.
Depending upon what time i roll outa bed, i'll meet up at TRE or Reel Inn.

I need to go put the next New Years Run on the calendar now.

Bob's Flat-Six 01-01-2003 05:09 PM

It was a Great New Years Day the weather couldn't have been better. I'm still smiling.
My SC ran Like it it thought it had more HP than it does? It must have been the great company. Lot's of interesting cars, Porsches of all models and Ferrari's, Lamborgini's, a Beck Spyder and a 914 that the licence plate frame said body by Porsche- Ball's by Chevy( he did a nice donut in the parking lot at the end of the day) Corvettes etc. The Gulf blue Turbo pictured pg. 1 above sound's awesome as he passes you.
Help me out if I forgot any Cars ? and post more Pic's please
Did anybody get a car count? I counted about 35 and a lot more came after that. Plus the cars that we met a the Reel Inn.

Thank You to TRE Motorsports (Dave) and all who attended
Cheers and Happy New YearSmileWavy

What the heck is going on here? I thought that this was a PORSCHE forum ... why are there so many pictures of those garbage Lambo cars? This is not a garbage forum, so I would appreciate not having it littered with useless trash like overpriced, ill-functioning, prancing cows. Thank you.

Oh, and the Gemini Blue RS replica is sporting a twin-plug 2.8 RSR motor. Just thought you'd like to know:mad:

Doug E 01-01-2003 06:11 PM

Wow - looks like quite a run!

Thanks for the pics.

Coming from a 914 guy.

Mr9146 01-01-2003 06:48 PM

Darn right coming from a 914 guy!! A 914 guy with a '73 2.4S MFI motor. But the point is that my car wears the Porsche crest, a Lambo does not. Therefore, it has no business being here. No matter how much of a mut my car may be, it's still a Porsche. Oh, and it would eat those Lambo garbage cans on any of the roads we took today - that's for sure.

I recommend you do a search on the forum ... look up "Turkey Run." Download the video if you want to see my car.

dd74 01-01-2003 07:02 PM

Great Day, Great Run!

Screw the bowl games! Forget the floats! By far this was more fun!

Laurel to Mulholland; Mulholland to 100+ mph down Sepulveda, and then a bunch of hijinks on Sunset and PCH. Settle it all with a stomach pulling of twisties up around Tapia Park and Mulholland West, and jeez, you'd wish New Year's was every day.

Stunt Canyon was awesome!

Who was driving the copper Alfa? That thing was smoking worse than a ghetto barbeque!

Riiggghhtt... Anyway, back to reality, as much as a Porsche fan I am, I can still give some respect to Ferrari's and lambo's, they are not my cup of tea, but they are still nice cars in their own right. They also have fans just like us, so each to their own.

Bob's Flat-Six 01-01-2003 07:08 PM

Thanks For posting the pics, Max. We'll keep the Lambos around to keep the bad attitudes away from the run.

HAHAHAHAHA! I knew that would get a response; I was just yankin' your chain a bit. Actually, a 914 was the first Porsche I ever rode in (my HS drafting teacher), and I wanted one ever since.

maxnine11 01-01-2003 07:11 PM

here is one for some of the fine 914 gentlemen in attendance today..http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/blk914.jpg

and here is another one for mr9146 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/lambo2.jpg

sammyg2 01-01-2003 07:30 PM

uhhmmm, was MR9146 joking? He sounded like he was serious but I wanted to make sure before I replied.

Mr9146 01-01-2003 08:47 PM

I don't know what you mean by serious, but if you mean keeping a PORSCHE board dedicated to Porsches - and not including the Italian tin-cans - then yes I am.

As far as me whooping Lambo butt up and down Stunt Road, I would be more than happy to call all of them out to play. I'm not saying I run the road, but on my home turf I can definitely hold my own.

Think about it - the Lambo's wheelbase prevents it from being practical on roads like Decker, Stunt, and the top of Mulholland (just past the Rock Store); it's just too long. And, the stock gearing in those cars is way too tall.

When I built my 914 - back in high school - I built it to dominate those particular stretches of tarmac. So, I feel confident saying that I can hang with any of those Italian junk bins on those particular roads. HOWEVER, I am not implying that I could hold a flame to them on the long, high-speed sections of the Malibu hills. Kanan and PCH ... you can have'em - besides, out there, there are more places for the cops to hide.

But let me end by saying that I do firmly believe in keeping a Porsche forum strictly Porsche. If you want to oggle and drool over Italian trash, do it in a Lambo or Ferrari setting. Those things have no business being here. However, they do deserve some ... not a whole lot, mind you ... but they do deserve some respect.

Okay, now bring on the responses.:D

Lighten UP junior.....geez....some of us drive 914s, 356s and 911s.....BUT we also appreciate other cars....

dd74 01-01-2003 09:11 PM

Ferrari and Lambos

I don't know - those Ferraris and Lambos are darn impressive. Can a 914 (properly built) take one - sure - and under the right (see "twisty") conditions - again, sure.

But I'm sure a Citreon 2CV can take a Lambo too - provided the driver of the Citreon can drive, and the road is Citreon-esque...(whatever that could be, right?)

Yet what's the worth in criticizing them. It was cool having the Italian cars around. No matter what, the Lambos are beautiful. The Ferraris are also gorgeous.

I guess the Panteras that were on the run would get lumped into "partial" Italian tin cans, right?

And the Becks who came along would be "home-built" tin cans?
