people that just dont get along.

KRAP!!

i got some assistance to help me thru the busy season. some lady transferred out to help and i was glad of it.

one project is pretty complicated to build. i was pleased to hear i was getting my favorite carpenter foreman to run that job for the Contractor. he is nice, fair, honest. if he makes a mistake, he will find me, tell me about it, and we work together to resolve it. i talked him up. i make a mistake..same thing. fess up, solve it.

the two hate each other. oil and water. they cant even look at each other when they talk. they both talk to me really loudly so the other can hear indirectly. like kids!!

i want "do-overs". i'd prefer to take a swing at this season solo. hell, my intern gets things done smoothly. he is polite and asks nicely.

Are you their superior in the workplace or their peer?

I never understand why you can't just sit em down like little babies and sort it out so everyone can have a more enjoyable life.

Personnel management is why managers are alcoholics.

If you're the boss, I'd pull them aside in private and address them individually, telling them you noticed tension and want to help. Get their individual stories, and take it from there.

Then drink beer.

After I retired from the Corps, I promised myself I would never take a position again where I had to manage personnel. Sixteen years out and I'm still true to my word.

It's tied my hands in a few ways, but has kept my mind free and clear of all that BS involved with managing folks. Life is good!

I had 2 guys like that working for me. Almost came to blows a few times. I sat both down and explained that it was disruptive to business and wouldn't be tolerated. I gave them both disciplinary actions and it was quiet for awhile.

Reminds me of when I was able to commute by bike to work.
I was only 4.5 miles from work. In the mornings I would ride the 4.5 straight in. I would never ride straight 4.5 back though.

By evening, I would need to ride about 14- 20 miles at full speed to blow off the day's stress!

Ego in-balance created by self-esteem issues.

No thanks - I have enough drama in my world....

My thing is, to make a point to have fun. Otherwise we'd be misrable. And having fun distracts from the fact that the crew really are from different worlds.

I sometimes get asked why I don't go into management. Thank you for reminding me why.

I seem to have stumbled into a situation at work that has not been dealt with by management and has been allowed to persist and worsen for years. I've been on the team for two weeks and have already seen the problems. I'm not going into detail because it the situation seems tailor-made for a spurious lawsuit. I've managed to work around the situation so far, but I don't see that lasting long. If my new manager doesn't deal with the problem, I'll move on at first opportunity.

Lock them in a bathroom until one kills the other, or until they are friendly.

I got so fed up with my 2 one day that I suggested they go out back, out of camera view, and duke it out. They didn't but I would have watched from my office.

Those two have had a very ugly personal relationship in the past. There is no other reason I can think where a man and woman would react to each other in that way.

Personnel management is the only thing keeping me from going into management. That and the fact that middle management are expendable.

Years ago I had to take over a territory where the staff ran the distribution center. Their technique was to bully the manager until he did what they wanted. He was short time and didn't give a darn. They were pretty good people, but they were used to getting their way. When I came in, I went from being nice to being a miserable SOB and back to being nice again in about a year. Looking back it is easier to think about than it was at the time.
I was offered a manager's position at my next place of work but declined. No regrets.

Best
