I don't like passing on the right, and I don't downshift on the freeway often.

I did both Thursday past...a damned Prius (with an Obama bumper sticker) clogging the left lane at the 65 mph limit. Finally the opportunity...I blasted by in 4th at 80 or so. Hopefully he heard the sound of my V-8 exhaust as I ruined the planet at full throttle... :D

I go through this every day. It's all of the above.
Funny thing is that it's all types of people. Your friends, your neighbours, your family.
Vent this in front of a group of people and there will be one person that will speak up and call you a dangerous a hole.

It is the law in California, 5 cars behind you, get over. Never seen it enforced, don't know anyone who has ever seen it enforced. I was cured of using the car pool lane by being trapped behind people going slower than the flow of regular traffic last time I went to Southern California.

Instrument 41 08-08-2016 12:20 PM

I think that there are many categories of left lane slow pokes. # 1-not paying attention to what's behind them, #2 "I'm going over the limit, go ahead and pass me" #3 "today I'm going to piss someone off by poking along in the passing lane, and when they go around me I'll speed up". #4 preoccupied kids on the cell phones #5 Moms trying to drive and handle their kids (usually seen in small 4 door cars).

And to those buttholes who say that some fool is flying down the road and just can't be patient...who are you to know what reason it is that this person is flying down the road, trying to get to a hospital, emergency, etc...Bottom line it just get over if your fit into one of the fore mentioned groups.

Some guy in a Prius in the car pool lane is one thing, but what about truck drivers? They should know better! Why don't they pull into a turn out when on narrow two lane roads where it's not safe for the drivers behind to pass?

Randy

I'll preface this by commending the officer for going after that guy. However, tailgating him like that is stupidly unsafe. Furthermore, he should have followed that up with a citation. The driver in this case probably doesn't even know why the officer lit him up!

kang 08-08-2016 02:10 PM

And why isn't this law enforced more vigorously? In my opinion, our roads would be a lot safer if slow drivers let people pass. There would be a lot less accidents caused by unsafe passes, less road rage, etc, etc.

During I-75 widening here in Ohio, the inner two lanes are being added, and for some reason, there are signs that the trucks must use the left lane. You can't believe how this messes with people's meek minds....it's been ingrained in them not to pass on the right, so they hang behind these semis in either 11' wide lane..........arghhh !

I'll bet he did, and he was SOOOO impressed. LOL!

Randy

In Venezuela when we lived there in the '70s and '80s, if you passed your exit on the autopista in Caracas, you could just pull over and back up the on-ramp :)

When I was in France earlier this summer, I was impressed (if not surprised) but the very strong lane discipline exhibited by absolutely everybody on the autoroutes. I was embarrassed on one occasion when I was not paying enough attention to my mirrors and I held up someone coming up behind me.

Yep!

I agree with you Kang about the trucks. The worst offenders are the mid to large size delivery trucks, not the big rigs, but I am start to see big rigs hogging up both right 2 lanes sometimes 3 lanes matching speed at 50 while everyone's flying by at 75 causing cars to accelerate getting out into the number 1 and 2 lane causing the 75mph traffic to slam on their brakes. Somehow those bastards cant judge distance or think their 3 cylinder cars is a corvette. A mess for sure

In the 944 I have more problems with maniacs than idiots, in the XK I have more problem with idiots than maniacs. :p

Top slow drivers and often 10 mph under the posted limit are those with 400 hp+ vehicles.

I think Corvette drivers are afraid of tipping over.

GothingNC 08-09-2016 05:51 AM

Just drove back tonRaleigh from Orlando FL yesterday and most drivers kept to the right until I crossed the SC border.

First was a lady driving her beat up Nissan Altima with a spare tire doughnut on the rear traveling 10 under in the left lane and never moved to the right.

Another was an old Lincoln Towncar that was driving the speed limit and would accelerate if you tried to pass on the right.

Such a joy having a police escort on the interstate during rush hour.

Troopers just blending in but you have left lane drivers freaking out and driving at or under the limit.

dad911 08-09-2016 10:24 AM

Screw that, I can hold back potential speeders for 4 hours driving Rt1 through the Florida Keys

Way of life in NJ. I pass more on right than left. More likely to get a ticket in the left lane also. Sad but true.

Problem is I would drive the 911 5mph over the limit, and get pulled over. 15mph over in a ford expedition, no problem, never pulled over.

I was in the same scenario as the video that you posted. A lady in an older suv doing 66 in a 65 on I-70.
She would speed up only when you tried to pass on the right. I finally had enough. Once I passed her she sped up and tried to catch me.
Ironically I was driving my Z06.
