Mazda CX9 vs. Ford Flex

Looking for a family daily driver and have kind of narrowed it down to these two. Any experience with either or both ? Looking at 2014 and 2015 . V6 in both is the preferred .

We had a 2009 Ford Flex and loved it. The Flex is often overlooked and truly is a very nice and unique vehicle. Drove it about 60K trouble free miles then sold it b/c the wife got the "smaller car" bug. It was an awesome road trip car. Very smooth and quiet on the highway. The interior finish quality is impressive. I would buy one again if I were in the market for such a vehicle. Ours was the decked out Limited trim level with the all glass roof, LED colored mood lighting, heated 1st and 2nd row seats, powerfold seats, and refrigerator center console w/ 2nd row captain's chairs. Great rig...typing about it makes me miss it.

Funny, at the time (2009) we considered and looked at the CX9 too. The Flex is a much nicer vehicle.

I have a 2013 CX-9. I really like it. I only have 28K on it so it is barely broken in.

One vote for Flex. Assuming they have upgraded the phone sync.

CX9 will definitely give you more sport, it's like an affordable and reliable X5 or Cayenne. They are very nice driving SUVs. Flex is also nice but more pedestrian, just a normal crossover.

They're both essentially the same vehicle. Add in the new style Explorer and Edge as well. The powertrains have been just about bulletproof. You can get the Ecoboost with the Ford though and there is some pretty cool tuning parts available. Maintenance wise all we do is plugs, the odd stretch belt and oil changes. Biggest repairs have been rear upper control arm bushings one a couple. Lots of the older ones are showing 300,000km without any real issues.

Biggest issues are usually Sync operation(funny how Sync never really seems to sync) and R/S front output seals off the transmission/transfer case(PTU).

Drive all four and see which one drives and suits you the best. No bad choice here.

Friend has a 2014 Flex, loves it ! 56,000 miles without a whimper. Car pooled with him and two others to a meeting 100 miles from Louisville. Very nice ride and comfort. I would consider one for myself if I needed something that size.

We bought an '07 CX9 second hand a couple years ago. It's been a great rig in most respects. We had to replace a leaking rear T-case which is a common issue on earlier models. I'm not sure when/if they corrected the problem. Something to watch out for, ours started leaking at about 90k miles.

The new body CX9 is a very sharp looking crossover.
