Anyone here use a jailbroken Amazon Kodi?

I'm finally getting around to cutting the cord (again) and a friend tells me this is 100% the way to go. Who has done this and how do you like it?

You don't need to jailbreak anything for KODI.

Android devices can install from google Play Store.

Amazon Fire's you side load.

If you've got a chromecast you can even use a spare Droid phone.

Those turnkey streaming boxes based on KODI are frowned upon in the community.

The premium content you are typically accessing infringes on copyrights.

Basically you are stealing.

Get yourself a current gen Raspberry PI, load OpenElec (version of KODI optimized to run on a PI), and strap it to the back of your TV.

Add the content streams you want.

At least that way you know what hardware you are getting.

There are a **** ton of those turnkey boxes out there. Some work well, most are junk.

I stream using Playstation Vue as my primary source of channels.

The KODI as SM said looks good on paper but there are lots of phakes with questionable pirated and virus laden stuff out there.

My hardware are a few Amazon Fire Sticks and a single Amazon Fire TV. I also have a PS4 and 3 that see a lot of TV streaming duty.

I cut the cord and attached a antenna on my roof and i get hd quality all the local channels. I use kodi for everything else. I upgraded my Internet speed.

You need to source Hdhome run attach it to your network.

Im using an Amazon Fire box with Kodi added. Works great. It takes a little bit of homework to load everything up. But its not hard. The best instructions are on Youtube. Kodi and TVAddons has everything I need.

The Amazon Fire box (NOT the stick) has a few things that make it a perfect platform for Kodi, such as: Android based, lots of memory, and a strong processor.

I run Kodi with the Exodus add-on.

Simple, works great.

I need cable for sports, but not for anything else.

I run Kodi on Raspberry Pi (v3) and its as sooth as my cable TV. I spent $35.
Don't bother possibly wrecking your Amazon, sell it instead. That would pay for the Raspberry Pi

I have an Amazon Fire TV box in the living room and an Amazon Fire TV Stick in the bedroom. Both have Kodi sideloaded. This works well for us as we do view videos on Prime as well as videos that reside on our NAS.

For Kodi, I have the userdata sync'd on the NAS. That way we can stop a show in the living room, then pickup where we left off in the bedroom.

Now, you do need to be careful about what add-ons you use with Kodi. Many of them pull content from web sources that store pirated content, Exodus being one of them. Currently, streaming this content in the US is a misdemeanor. But, there are efforts underway to raise it to a felony.

Kodi itself does not infringe on anything but the addons can. We use Kodi for all the DVDs and digital movies we have, plus anything recorded OTA on from the tuner card. It is a great way to manage a library of movies. It save the kids having to handle all the disks as well. There is an addon that should work to stream Netflix as well if you have chrome installed on the PC but it is just as easy to pull up a browser to stream Prime or Netflix. Don't do much with Hulu any longer.
