Fuzz Pedals

In my continuing quest to become "The World's Okayest Guitar Player" I have been picking up gear here and there for the last year since I started playing.

Today I received my new Red Fox Fuzz pedal in the mail from Backwoods Music (shameless plug alert) and I played around with it for a couple of hours. I think it gave me a contact high for those of you into 60's and 70's rock or more modern stoner rock. This thing is cool and has a lot of neat sounds in the stomp box.

It's also made in Florida, and doesn't cost a mint. If you are interested in a new fuzz, check it out. The pedal runs about $120 on Amazon with Prime shipping, and it was legitimately here in two days.

I'm a hack, and you don't want me playing more than rhythm on a couple numbers.

Well, I think the only pro on here is Jeremy and he's a keyboard man so I think you'll be just fine.

Not to be a wet blanket but my ears did not care for that pedal at all. I am more of a blues driver / tube screamer guy.

I'm not a fuzz pedal guy. But I recently built a '69 100w Plexi clone from the Metro kit. It is so ridiculously clean, that I had to put a pedal in front of it. Problem is that it tested at 132w and was putting out 100w with the volume on 2. So trying to get any kind of breakup risked blowing out the Greenbacks in my 120w Marshall cab. I got a used Carl Martin Plexitone pedal for $90 and it will get VHI tones all day long. Tomorrow I will have my '79 JMP 50w build up and running.

I lean more towards over drive pedals and have fallen for these Dumble style/clone pedals and got a J Rockett The Dude. Gotta say it is pretty sweet

I bought a Mooer Rumble Drive recently and have been playing with it a lot. It's surprisingly good.

Tube Screamer was the real deal back in the day.

Jeremy certainly doesn't need me to speak for him, but he's also an outstanding lap steel player.

If anybody knows how to get the early (Siamese Dream era) Smashing Pumpkins fuzz sound, I'd be interested. I have a Russian Big Muff and that used to work perfectly with an old Crate SS amp, but I sold the Crate and now the Big Muff sounds crappy with both my Marshall and Univalve.

You have the pedal correct. That's the big muff sound.

I have no problem gettin good tone from fuzz pedals, including big muff, with my amps. I only play tube amps..fender, vox, Victoria

Mess with your settings and see if you can dial it in.

I did sell my muff in favor of a black arts Pharoa Fuzz as it has more control over mid range and it cuts through a mix much better

This might be my next pedal. Got both of my Marshall builds all sorted out yesterday and they both require a little extra gain out front.
