Ultrasonic rodent repellent for car engines
Do those things work? The mechanic replacing the chewed up hoses in my van say they’re actually effective but I’m skeptical. The products on Amazon have so-so reviews. They’re not expensive but seem really gimmicky. What are your thoughts?

If it's not expensive then yes it's worth a try.
Aside from baiting I can't think of anything else to keep them away. A good cat?

My dad bought some of these and gave me one.
Absolutely useless. Get a cat.

The electronic gizmos are useless. Cats are the best deterrent. I’ve tried coyote urine with some success.

I leave mine open with traps inside.
I also have an exterminator that does the pro work. When it gets cold and dark they look for shelter. It's nature. But not in my house |

I've used them in my garage with no indication of success. "They say," the sound is irritating to them, but new generations get accustomed to it. I leave the hood open on my van (parked outside under the shelter I bought and assembled) and had a cat for a short time recently. They set up housekeeping over the past five years in the front bumper area and destroyed the wiring for the pre-collision sensors and other wiring in the front to the tune of $5K. I've tried lots of things - traps, ultrasonic divices, baits, coyote urine, etc., and nothing seemed to work. Sorry for the bad news.

Ultra sonic does work but you need a LOT of dB. So the devices that work cost a couple hundred. And now you're bothering a lot more than mice in your vehicle. But I've made dogs whimper at 200'. 120 dB at 19kHz through a trumpet style megaphone.

I just cleaned my intake cover on my tundra. Full of rat pellets. I put a cube of poison on the top of the intake housing.

https://www.motorverso.com/which-cars-have-soy-based-wiring/.
Chewed wires, car breaks down and fails, next car has to be made from new materials shipped all over the world and requires lots of energy. That cycle doesn't seem too 'ecological' to me.

Back when I frequented a Porsche repair joint cause they were friends, I say "were". Both dudes were named dan, but that's another story for another time...
Witnesses at least two cars, a late model Boxster and a 991 having completely new wiring harnesses pulled in under insurance coverage due to rodent damage to the system. I was told, and the Dans knew their poop that during assembly Porsche used a peanut oil-based lube to pull the harnesses. It was great that the oil went away over a short time but always smelled like peanuts to mice forever. Thought of this post today and threw a whole box of drier sheets around my boat....
