Eye damage from disconnecting pressure hose and ...
possible lawsuit...
We have had our garage roof reshingled in the last few days and my wife stopped to talk to a neighbor who was finishing up reshingling his own roof. He was reeling up the air hose and it was disconnected but there was residual air pressure in the hose. While he was reeling up the hose there was residual air pressure and it let go. He was wearing eye glasses but not safety glasses. The air hose let go and the blast of air went in to his eye. My wife said his eye was bleeding at the bottom but the center of the eye was intact. Question for you legal types. Obviously our concern is the eyesight of this man. He went straight to the eye doctor. We will check on him shortly. My wife is concerned about a possible lawsuit as she might have distracted him? Your thoughts please? Guy |

Was she topless and shaking her (.)(.)? I mean, that is the only thing I could think of that could even merit such a thought that someone could sue for being talked to.

What exactly 'let go'? What hit him, a blast of air?
You think because she was there she might get sued? Seriously?

The world is full of unethical greedy slime-balls who will sue over anything, as evidenced in this forum from time to time. They'll sell their soul to take a chance at hitting that lawsuit lottery.
There is nothing you can do to stop a lawsuit from being filed, but in this case it would be so frivolous all you would have to do to win would be to show up. PS STOP TALKING TO YOUR NEIGHBORS! ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 09-15-2016 at 09:18 AM.. |

Neighbor was on HIS property, reeling up HIS hose, when it hit HIS eye because HE manipulated it...
How did your wife infer she may be at fault? |

True dat. I've had my share. But unless she was physically restraining him I don't know how she could be at fault. Doesn't mean a slime ball wouldn't try.

wait your neighbor is canadian right?
He will probably send over a gift basket for being there in his time of need. Seriously though I hope he recovers fully, and I think you would have to be in the usa to have any chance with such a silly lawsuit

Sounds like the connector let go (or he was disconnecting it) and the male end whacked him in the eye. EDIT: the point being it was not disconnected

If you release a 100 psi hose by just pulling back o the ring of the female coupler without holding on to the other fitting you have created rocket propulsion.
He was negligent in the improper use of an air hose. Don't tell anyone or they will ban the use of couplers in Canada. If she got hit would she sue?

Guy:
I don't think your wife is at risk here, but if she is worrying about it, you could check your house or apartment insurance policy and look for a personal liability floater rider. This insures your family members, and possibly others, for liability arising out of an act or omission which occurs on or off your property, not related to the operation of a motor vehicle. If your policy is hard to read, just call your insurance agent. |

Thanks all for your thoughts. The eye doc says he got a cut at the bottom of his eye.
Should not be a problem. ![]() |

He also said the air hose was disconnected. How does a disconnected hose maintain air pressure?
Maybe we don't have an accurate description of the incident.

I think he should see an eye specialist.
