I had mine custom made. I was able to lie down on all types of mattresses to pick out what kind of springs I wanted, then chose the cover, etc. I really like my matress, but I can sleep on anything from a mattress to a chair, a bale of straw, a sofa, the ground, etc. I don't know why I bothered to get a special mattress at all.

We (wife) decided a new mattress was needed so we went shopping. I had no idea how much you could spend! And why are they on sale all the time?
We ended up spending a couple of grand, but the list price was nuts!

1990C4S 08-29-2016 12:46 PM

A lot mattresses are made specific for each sales outlet, different trim, fabric, names etc.

That way you can't cross shop, the same mattress isn't sold anywhere else.

And the sales are a scam....they never sell for list price.

Last Christmas we finally decided to get a new bed.

Had a select comfort for at least 15 years.

Went with the Serta adjustable set up. King made up of (2) XL twins.

We purchased the top line Serta adjustable frames (Motion Custom) and the iComfort Prodigy mattresses. Having the dual setup is a more expensive way to go, but worth it, as I can't imagine sharing an adjustable bed and agreeing on the settings everyday. We use the adjustment feature daily. One setup to watch tv, other to play on the phone/read and the final to sleep. The 2 sides are almost never the same. The kids love it too. The 5 layers of different memory foam with the cooling gel is fantastic, although I'm uncertain the cooling feature does much as I keep the house cool at all times.

We absolutely love it.

I tell everyone willing to listen that they need to get an adjustable bed, we will never be without one. We went from having a bed full of pillows to just 2, the bed does the rest.

^^
If by adjustable you mean the head and feet can be elevated we had one. I left my side flat all the time. My wife liked it well enough to take it with her in the divorce.

Yep, that kind. Sorry (or congratulations) on the divorce. Sounds like you guys couldn't agree on anything :).

Second that emotion!
Don't go with the super firm.
Raymour and Flannigan led us through the process - excellent experience.

I wanted to bump this up and get some new opinions.

Our mattress is old and we're not exactly young either. I get a sore back sleeping on it and her hip hurts if she lays on that side. So we've been looking at something new, we've been thinking of getting a memory foam one so that her moving around at night, and getting up at 5:00 doesn't wake me up.

Has anyone slept on a regular TempurPedic vs their breeze models? I've read their mattresses can be hot and I'd hate to buy one now and find out this summer that it's too warm. That's going to be past their trial period and I won't be able to return it at that point.

She also really wants an adjustable base, she wants to be able to raise her head when her acid reflux is acting up. Of course she loves the massage feature in the more expensive bases, but is that more of a novelty or do people really use it?

This is what we settled on. We both like it much better than spring matresses with memory foam top. I can't believe I spent so much on the Sealy we're replacing. This was $750. We love it.

How's the firmness on that mattress? The Tempurpedic mattresses we like the best are the Cloud Elite and Cloud Supreme, which are the 2nd and 3rd softest mattresses Tempurpedic makes.

Tuft & Needle owners on average regard the new firmness level to be medium-firm or about "6.5" to "7". While this level of firmness appears to suit most owners, it does not suit everyone. About 12% of owners find it too firm (beyond break in) and about 4% find it too soft. About an additional 14% find the firmness to be acceptable but not ideal.

It amazes me how inexpensive those are on their own, but sew them on to the top of a mattress and you can now sell that same mattress for three times as much

Firmness is hard to quantify. The top layer is fairly pliable. I don't notice any pressure whether I'm laying on my side or my back. This is a test someone recommended to me: lie on your face on the mattress and notice the pressure on your nose and cheeks. The mattress should give so the pressure on your nose is not painful. The Tuft and Needle gives slowly, so after about 15-30 seconds the pressure is almost gone. The bottom layer is firm, but not bouncy. Fall flat on the mattress and you bounce like dead cat.

No one should buy a mattress without trying one of these. You have nothing to lose. You buy it, try it for at least 30 days, and if you don't like it you call them to come get it and give you your money back. Testing a mattress couldn't be easier.

My cheap side says the box spring is OK and we could get just a mattress, but your'e probably right.

You do not need to buy a boxspring, they are a scam.

Use your old one or make a platform.
