Why do woman drink?
The real reason why women drink — Quartz
Good article: women have never been more unhappy with their lives...since they entered the workforce(and become slaves to consumerism/corporations). Record number of DUI's, overdoses(both alcohol & prescription/illegal drugs), divorces, single mothers, welfare recipients, dead-beat Dad's to content with. Looking at the state of the highly dysfunctional millennials...collectively we haven't done such a great job as disengaged parents battling our own demons.

You know those beer goggles we get when we drink? Women get the same thing. How do you think I got my hottie gf?

And yet we keep being told that there is happiness and a better life when there are no restrictions. Women now have many of the freedoms that men have: better job opportunities, less sexual morality restrictions, freedom to express themselves. Are they happier? No the drink more.
Likewise, society today has less moral restrictions than ever before but we are the most unhappy. Maybe there is a better answer?

They drink to forget. Sometimes they forget to drink.
Here in New Zealand there has been a huge rise in drinking driving offenses in the females 50 years plus category. Women going out and getting sloshed with their buddies. They tend to be middle class/upper middle class and have the attitude "Me drunk?, I beg your pardon! I'm a lady." |

When I was a kid my uncle showed me a book titled "Everything Men Know About Women".
It was the size of a postage stamp and had three blank pages.

I think drinking has become more accessible and less easy to hide. I recently read an article where the female author made to decision to stop drinking. She talked about the social issues that came up because of not drinking. Her friends' favorite saying was "Nothing too bad wine can't fix it."
The flavors are created to make it easier to drink and they market to women. Just look at the list of Smirnoff Vodka Flavors: Smirnoff Green Apple Smirnoff Watermelon Smirnoff Raspberry Smirnoff Strawberry Smirnoff Ice Peach Bellini Smirnoff Ice Strawberry Acai Smirnoff Blueberry Vodka Smirnoff Ice Tropical Fruit Smirnoff Whipped Cream Smirnoff Vanilla Vodka Smirnoff Ice Cherry Lime Smirnoff Pineapple Smirnoff Ice Screwdriver Smirnoff Kissed Caramel Smirnoff Orange Smirnoff Mango Smirnoff Sorbet Light Mango Passion Fruit Smirnoff Cherry Smirnoff Ice Blueberry Lemonade Smirnoff Lime Smirnoff Pear Smirnoff Iced Cake Smirnoff Sorbet Light Raspberry Pomegranate Smirnoff Passionfruit Smirnoff Cranberry Smirnoff Melon Smirnoff Citrus Smirnoff Pomegranate Smirnoff Coconut Smirnoff Fluffed Marshmallow Smirnoff Root Beer Smirnoff Ice Triple Black Lime Smirnoff Ice Cranberry Lime Splash Smirnoff Dark Roasted Espresso Smirnoff Dark Roasted Espresso 100 Proof Smirnoff Sorbet Light Lemon

Why would women drink for any different reasons than men?

I think Stephanie (PorscheGal) hit the nail on the head. More alcohol is being marketed towards women. Skinny Girl line of drinks, flavored wines and vodkas, etc. And featured more in movies and TV lately.

Perhaps women are just catching up with men. Drinking to excess is more common than many think.
My wife used to work in an ICU as a nurse. A patient's stay there may be several days or longer and of course there is no drinking. After just a couple of days lots of patients who would otherwise claim not to be drinkers or only occasional drinkers were going through the DTs. She'd say the numbers were very eye opening. A lot of us here on the board probably work with quite a few alcoholics and don't even realize it (nor do the drinkers realize it).

The flavor-y soda-pop style Vodka drinks aren't for women.
They're for the kids.

Can't believe I read that entire *****y blog. One mean spirited woman there...I feel sorry for her.

Have historically and NOT recently known more women with alcohol/drug problems than men. They just used different excuses. Think Valium.

I read that article a few days ago. I thought it was interesting. I looked up the author. She is a self described recovering alcoholic who seems to see the world as glass half empty. I think that is summed up with her attitude here.
