I don't like copperheads...at all!

Found one earlier today...sucker was almost invisible....gave me the heebie jeebies . Could have easily stepped on it....one down, how many more? I expect 'em around wood piles, etc. but not just laying around in the leaves in open spaces...

You would not like the area that separates Lubby's and my place.

It's named Copper Canyon.

Take a guess why.

I found a shed copperhead skin in my cluttered garage a few nights ago. The skin was about 2 1/2 feet so it was a pretty good sized one. Made/makes the skin on the back of my neck crawl. It was not there a week ago because I was working in that exact spot. I have not seen any snakes near here although I have lots of raspberry and blackberry bushes which attract little critter...and until recently rodents.

I grew up in an area with lots of copperheads and rattlesnakes...so I am pretty familiar with them and had a few close calls...but not sure that my spidey sense is a good as it once was. I have no idea if it came in when the garage was open or if there is a gap somewhere. I also don't know if it came and went...so I have to assume it is still there. I guess there is a chance it blew in through an open door...but really doubt that. I hate snakes.

Wife got bit by a copperhead one time. Took her a few years to get over it.

Snakes killed the rats, which helped cause the bubonic plague, which wiped out a 1/3rd of Europe.
Conquer your fears.

Enough said.

There are other kinds of snakes to do the job than copperheads.

Had a 6' Black Rat Snake that hung out in our break room at work for a few years. Reactions from the sort of people that walk through to "case out" a place for an unscheduled after hours return trip were pretty darn priceless.

Constrictors. They squeeze the life out of rats, squirrels and other vermin. They are typically timid and deficate as a defensive move to scare you away with the noxious power of their bowel production. Great to have around, but if you see more than one, you probably have a vermin problem.

Copperheads should be killed whenever you see one, but be careful. They can be bold and aggressive! They will stand their ground and are fast. Heavy boots and a long machete are best.

When I was 8yo in India I saw the roadside snake charmers(beating on their dilapidated fang-less cobras) vs the temples full of swarming rats.

Guess which side I picked?

Yep, and the rock is copper colored.

Scott, don't fool yourself, it has nothing to do with snakes, they just happen to blend in, and thrive because so.

I've lived in Texas all my life, love to hunt and fish, but only one time have I been concerned. Water moccasin. Have seen black widows, scorpions, brown recluse, even alligators, but never a rattler in the wild.

Maybe one day I will.

That is surprising. I figured lots of them in TX...although never saw any the couple years I lived there either. Lots of copperheads in Western NC where I grew up...killed a dozen or so each year. A timber rattler every now and then. Saw a few rattlers in Colorado too. Quite a few in NM as well...had a huge one under one of the guy's desk one morning. Always had to be careful walking to the car when I worked late.

No rattles on tale. Definitely a Copperhead - very prevalent here.
