My RX7 on BaT

Figured this could be fun: 1993 Mazda RX-7 Touring | Bring a Trailer

We'll see what happens.

cockerpunk 09-13-2016 05:43 PM

nice car

one thing initial D did get right, and fast and furious got wrong, was that the RX7 is the true Japanese hero car, not the supra.

speeder 09-13-2016 06:35 PM

I thought this was the one, the only, the dreamcar/keeper?

The Supra might not be "hero"...but my '87 turbo would outperform my '88 Carrera....car was awesome but not a 911 :)

ZAMIRZ 09-13-2016 08:36 PM

That's a great looking RX-7!

87 turbo supra?

yeah thats a big old nope. the 80s supra is even worse than the 90s supra. what, 3700lbs? seats that weight 70 pounds each? the car is like driving a sofa down the road.

my friend has a 1jz swapped 80s supra, and its not even a match for my 944, much less a 911. and the 1jz is significantly more powerful and reliable than the stock turbo motor.

Most would probably say it's the GTR.

You have no clue...yes the Supra Turbo was heavy, but 150 mph wasn't common back then, on boost it was every bit as intoxicating as the Porsches of the day, and I used to sling that pig around tight curves that I would never attempt in my 911 :)

Sorry 'bout hijackng your thread Matt....

Unfortunately I only have so much space, money, and time, and the 911SC wins in the keeper department.

herr_oberst 09-14-2016 04:30 AM

Matt, that car presents very well, and the auction description also reflects very well on you as an owner!

Nicely done and good luck!

aigel 09-14-2016 08:38 PM

Was this longer than 15 months? :) I didn't even know you had this until you bought the last boxster! You could have at least rebuilt the suspension! ;)

Good luck with your sale. Keep us posted!

i can tell you, ive driven a 1jz swapped 80s turbo supra, and my 944 turbo back to back on the same roads and the supra is a joke compared to the 944. even with the supra having a far more modern engine than it did stock

porsche4life 09-14-2016 08:58 PM

Good luck Matt. It's a damn clean car!

Maybe we're referring to different years? The motor in the '87s forward were bullet proof, and potent. Mine was capped at 150 mph max, and would do it while the car was absolutlely stable at that speed. Tranny was bullet proof too....I was a speed shififting demon, redlining fool for 100k miles...fun times :). Like I said...with me behind the wheel, it was much more capable than my 911...both great cars...just different sensations...

Burp to the top for Matt...

Tobra 09-15-2016 09:27 AM

The 2jz turbo is the hero motor

That is a very nice RX7, wish I were in the market for a car.

the 7m?

one of the worst engines toyota ever made. besides the 1zz-fe. i think that goes down as one of the worst engines anyone has ever made though.

the 2jz is a fantastic engine. the 1jz is is only slightly smaller, but also a fantastic engine.

to bad they put them in the porker of a supra. the rx7 meanwhile was FRS light, with 300hp, rotary ....

....

You are so right, I lose :)

Hanging my head in shame....

AFC-911 09-15-2016 11:25 AM

The rotary blows though. The FD deserves a glorious engine like an LS, for example.

An RX7 without a rotary just isn't special, it's like a 911 with an LS motor. Most of the reason the rotaries have a bad rep is stupid owners that either don't maintain them properly or modify them irresponsibly. Furthermore, if they do blow the engine is scary simple and cheap to rebuild.
