Put your keys in aluminum foil box

Why you should wrap your keys in aluminum foil | Fox News
Always-on key fobs present a serious weakness in your car's security. As long as your keys are in range, anyone can open the car and the system will think it's you. That's why newer car models won't unlock until the key fob is within a foot of them.

But for less than $100, criminals can get an amplifier that detects key fob signals from up to 300 feet away and then transmits them to your car. In other words, your keys could be in your house, and criminals could walk up to your car and open it. This isn't just a theory; it's actually happening.

Go the whole hog and get a foil hat too

I don't need to worry. These keys are far too modern for lil' ole me.

2 of my 3 cars don't even have keyless entry. My wife's van is keyless start, but I feel pretty safe that it won't be targeted by any theft rings.

I went a step further and got rid of keys and fobs altogether

Now, you have to physically twist some wires together.

I feel pretty safe since nobody knows how to do something physically anymore. I can just imagine how frustrated someone with a computer would be trying to steel my car

I have a fool proof security system on my truck. I may be the only person on the planet who can get it started if it's been sitting more than 3 days.

You should see the confused look on guests faces when, on the coffee table right where the remote control for the entertainments system should be, they find this thing that I call a book!

They are even more surprised when I pick it up and instead of pushing buttons, I open it to show them a picture!

What a great way to prevent pesky friends from asking to borrow your truck every weekend. I'm adding that to my list!

I have a 1958 MGA that I leave in the driveway ... with the keys in it.

I doesn't have a roof, or side windows for that matter. Turning the key does nothing except activate ignition... provided you find the battery cut off, then fuel pump switch, then figure out which knob on the dash is the pull start. Even if you get that far, you have to get under the hood to manually pull the chokes on the carbs.

If someone gets through all that and manages to get it running, they can have it. My insurance company will be my first call.

I'll sleep like a log, knowing that I have taken all the precautions! My "box" needs a lid tho (it's more of a tray)

And the answer why there's US Federalized auto's all over Russia. Do the ports even care anymore with outbound shipping containers? Hell no, too much of an effort and besides, the sad sack owner got paid from insurance claim. So much for the crap and cost of having security these days!

Diplomatic Flap As Albanian Minister Caught Driving Stolen Car
Using a security system set up at the border point in line with European Union regulations, customs authorities discovered that the serial numbers of the car matched those of a vehicle reported stolen by the Mafia in Italy earlier this year.

The expensive black Mercedes was then reportedly sold to the Albanian government, which was unaware it was stolen, according to Mega TV.

I'm dreading the day when I'll have to buy a car with some sort of fob- don't want to be carrying a big chunk of plastic in my pocket when a thin brass key can do the job.

So what happens when the car thief drives off with no keys and has to turn the car off? I dropped Mrs. Lee off at a mall and she had her ignition key in her purse. I went to a music store 3 miles away and she had to take a cab to get to me so I could restart her car.

This. And the range isn't very far. The bad guy would have to be inside my home and then they will have other issues to deal with.
