Im loving my work in R, automating tons of pivot tables and managing large datasets. Im still a newb but its definitely made my work life a lot easier.

My (limited) experience with R tells me it is great for generating plots, graphs, etc. but the actual data collection, logic, etc. is best handled by another language that has R bindings available.

Thats a good point, someone within my company has written an R package that allows you to run sql queries inside an r script. Super handy.

And MS has built R into the latest version of SQL Server as well...
