opinion on RS type door pull on my car

Paint guy sent me a couple of pics today.

Getting close. Now I have to decide to stay with the long leather strap or go with a newer RS fabric door pull like ones in the 964?

I really like the pulls in the 964, but have to buy new panels. The car is not stock, and have fiber glass hood, fenders and engine lid, all windows are plastic with the exception of the windshield. The heck with stock but would any of you do it or stick with what's there?

couple more of before.

Rims are being refinish with the typical black. 9" turbo wheels were cramped into the back with a little fender work

I have the black straps. Leather is better.

Your car has come a long way.

I'd stay with the "long leather straps". It's period correct for you car.

Nice colour BTW.

Love it! Personally I've always liked the fabric pulls, it's a nice bit of contrasting color.

Red ones would be nice, if they aren't too floppy.

Period correct or not, the cars has a few holes in it for the oil lines. See those damn thing running through the interior of the passenger side. They are huge, like 1" thick. Go broke changing oil. With the leather strap, I think it will eventually break because its so thin.

I started with the long leather straps, but ended up redoing them to the RS door pulls. It's just a cleaner look and less likely to get snagged. I ended up using leather and stitching them to match the steering wheel stitching and coco mats.

Thanks for the pic. I am thinking the same thing.

You know, Graig T, that green is all your fault. I have always wanted a Green 911 since high school but it was never meant to be with my others. When I saw the pic with the cop behind your car a few years ago, that started my thinking about a long hood build.

Oh yeah, wheels are getting refinished.

Craig, I just looked at your pic of the cockpit again. My car will be very similar to yours down to the Prototipo bit not the checker seats. I have a radio block off plate but really like what you have done with yours. Looks damn perfect.

Where did you get that door panel?

I hadn't realized this was your thread. It's coming along nicely!

Leather straps:
Here are some shots of my seats but you can see the door panels in the background
Saving a 73 from the crusher...
I wish I had better pics.

As far as practicality they work fine. Those in the know get it, everyone else just looks at the doors with a puzzled look. Also passengers tend to try and hang on to the door opening strap so that the passenger doesn't flop around inside the car (not realizing the could end up outside the car)

The door panels are easy. Just buy the RS panel kit from TRE uncovered. Any local auto upholsterer can put a leather skin on them. I bought extra basketweave material and had it stitched in.

For my radio hole, I just tack welded a thin piece of sheetmetal over the hole and covered it with the basketweave.
