They are still out there (P car content)

Just got a email from a guy looking for help with his 59 356. His wife is friends with my sister and I guess she saw my 911 at my sisters place.

Hasn't been driven for 35-40 years. The car is complete. He's had it for 3 years.

I live in LA. This past weekend I was walking the dog a couple blocks away from home and passed an apartment building. In the gated parking garage was a red 930 covered in a thick layer of dust. Out of state plates last stickered in 1999...

My dad's first Porsche was a '59. Nice car. He had been travelling in Europe with my mom, slugging it slowly up mountain roads in a rental VW -- only to hear the 356 cooling fan in a distance...and having one whiz by him.

Left him with a "I gotta get me one of those!" moments.

Later replaced with a '65 SC with an "airport gearbox." Topped out at 95mph, but got there quickly compared to others.

Having hit 90 (down hill w/ a tail wind) in my '65 C coupe... 95 is plenty fast. Although the math for 4th gear and the redline indicate 105 is possible...

Gearing suited for races at airfield circuits. There is a set of gears in the gearbox spec book that is labeled as airport gears.
