Artie's HOME!!

Much joy and happiness in the household today. Our cat Artemis disappeared 10 days ago.
We feed the cats every night and shut them in the barn. Every night about 5:00 they gather at the barn door, like clockwork. Ten days ago Artie didn't show up. We were worried, and our worry was turning to something like mourning. We had almost despaired of ever seeing him again. After losing my dog Maddie in July, this was a big gut punch.
Last night he came wandering down the path from the woods just like nothing had happened.
Tears of joy from both of us.

Long ago when I was single and dating I was dating a chick that had a cat that kept disappearing for several days at a time, and come home in great shape and even getting fat. I said I bet the cat has found another home to go hang out at and eat.

The chick bought a collar and a name tag for her cat, with her phone number on it. The next time it vanished she got a call form other lady mad that she had put a collar on "her" cat!

Come to find out the other lady had rescued it from a shelter, and the cat was an escape artist. My girlfriend had adopted it after she had just had her old cat put down from feline leukemia.

The two of them ended up "sharing" ownership and the cat was happy to spend the night at either place. They would call the other person, and leave a message that the cat was with them that night so don't worry. I figured out she was nuts, and the bedroom was fun, but not worth that level of crazy.

Vicki thinks maybe he just needed a vacation from playing in the woods, laying around the property, and waiting for dinner.
Seriously, I think he was sick. We could tell by the condition of his tail that he had had diarrhea. Cats usually clean themselves up pretty well, but he took a couple of days to clean himself. Must have eaten a bad mouse or snake.

I love cats...one of our barn cats, Peanut, takes a break from the barn this time of year, has for years...cooler, less action around the barn, needs some time away from the other barn cats.

He is usually gone four days to a week.

As Sooner alluded to, I'd love to hear his stories.

Peanut is huge, btw; not fat, just a really big cat.

We once had a cat disappear for 11 months....it came back and immediately bit me. I knew it had to be the same cat because the damn thing hated me. It stayed with us until it died a few years later.

Young, Pregnant, and Alone

Watching her four kittens being born and watching them grow and mature - we kind of fell in love with them. Pets can bring you great joy, but they can break your heart too.

Noice!
A big slab of Joy with a capital J after a rough few months is strong medicine!

I have never been a "cat person", but have connected with about 5 over the years that tolerated me enough so that we bonded. But they are cool .... so glad Artie returned to his servants !

Pretty much the same for me. I wrote in another thread that my sisters brought home a stray from the post office.

She had eight kittens and we kept three. I was probably 8 or 9 and we lived on a small ranch in California. We had always had dogs but these were, for some odd reason, our first cats.

They were a complete blast - stable and house cats rolled into one.

Glad he is back!

Big Red has been gone for 9 months. I hope he comes back because Bubba misses him, but I am not hopeful.
