Gordon Lightfoot
Going to see him Saturday. Probably for the last time. Sad, but so amazing what his songwriting has given to us - well me, anyway. When I was rebuilding my first Porsche I had the albums Summer Side of Life and Lightfoot on the cassette player in the shop and listened to them endlessly. I probably lost my first really serious girlfriend because I preferred to work on my Porsche than spend time with her, and Gordon, with Miguel, Cotton Jenny, That's What You Get For Lovin' Me, Did She Mention My Name, Susan's Floor, 10 Degrees and Getting Colder - so much more was in the background. The Lightfoot tapes were the soundtrack to my 20s. How can a guy in his 30s write "Summer Side of Life?"

Gordon Lightfoot
You were more in touch with Lightfoot than you think. He drove an early 1970's 911Porsche to a concert I attended in Kingston Ontario in 1972 or 1973. First time I saw him and have been listening to him ever since.
Have fun at the concert. He is one of music's most enduring entertainers. |
