I'm in Jax and we're evacuating our 2 hospitals that are at the beach. Over 60 patients at one and over 90 at the other. We're sandbagging our facility on the St. Johns River.
It's getting pertty serious around here. :( |
My BIL is a cop in DelRay, but has his home (on a canal) in Boyton Beach....basically dead center.
He will be safe because he will be with other cops patrolling, but his house ? |
Man! My sweetheart and I are kid free this weekend and were planning to escape to our beach place on Topsail Island (NC), but we might need to re-think this plan! Oh well! I guess I sound like a d_ck with first world probs.

depending on the angle of approach and tide timing you could be under water 20 ft over high tide is possible why not jump over to the west coast now while you can I survived ANDREW |
Local public schools closing in surrounding counties but not ours. Both colleges (UF and Santa Fe) remain open, may close at 2 or so tomorrow, depending.

I am not a weather girl, but here is my opinion: Google and see how Charlotte fared after Hugo. Hugo grew to a Cat 4 before it made landfall. Hugo's main cell went straight across SC, and just east of Charlotte. Mathew was up to a Cat 5, but I think is now a Cat 3 after passing over Haiti. As it moves through warm waters toward Florida, it could increase again. Mathew is projected to run up the coast, so inland damages should be significantly less than when Hugo came through - however there could be much more coastal damage.
