I double dog dare you to paddle over it? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1475885829.jpg

... PS- I know you are preoccupied with the storm and such, but I really need a new wheelset for my torker, preferably blue anondized rims. I drilled holes in my ACS rims and mounted a sturmey archer in the rear, and is isn't doing so well 35 years later...so sue me- I WAS 10 YEARS OLD!!! Assuming your parts supply doesn't float off, please update! :D

Sorry- that was a thread hijack- I only mention because the last time a storm like this hit Va, I was with a friend in a deuce and a half. We drove around all day, such as your pics, but when trees started falling like matchsticks, he proclaimed "I think I'd better get home" and he dropped me off at my house as cats flew sideways. The deuce levelled the trees like nothing as he made his way home. Earlier in the day, I had parked my 944 in a tree free church parking lot and rode my MTB home in 65 mph winds through minor fallen trees and such. The 944 was safe... And then everyone hunkered down..... As the storm increased (long night of falling trees and howling winds). I cowarded in the basement. Best friend's house cut in half by oak tree... Be safe!

Yikes! Be safe Byron, and all the Pelicans in harm's way.

Well, still without power, had to go to my warehouse to charge the phone.
If I had a kayak, I'd have already padded that..
I actually have Blue Z rims, the Sturmy Archer Elite are one of my favorite hubs, have a set for my 49 Cycle Truck.. luckily, my house and shop are high and dry, but have some nasty tall pine trees that have me worried, and while rain not so much, still have some nasty winds blowing. Lucky here, but StAugustine , parts of Jax Beach and Flagler weren't so lucky. I didn't take these pix, but know the areas well.

We can always talk Z rims later! ;)

Keep safe and watch out for the trees. When we got hit, the ground was already saturated from a previous storm, to the roots were embedded in the equivalent of loose cardboard. They ripped right up when the winds got loose.
Good luck,
ron

A question from someone unfamiliar with Florida. When the place gets flooded like that, aren't you guys worried about alligators cruising around?

When I lived in Miami after a hurricane, we had both gators and BAD ASS NASTY KILLER TYPE SNAKES swimming up to people's front doors. Yes, it's a problem.

Aww, hell no!

Mericet 10-07-2016 08:14 PM

Well, up where I am it was really not bad. Our power stayed on the way through. Now to wait and see when the roads back to Amelia Island will open so I can go and check on my place.

Yes, but most people there are prepared for that. There's giant wide deep canals crossing the city full of sea water, and those generally have bite-y or poison-y reptiles in or near them. Kids learn to not chase the ball into the canals at a young age...

But drunks seem to forget that, and drive cars into them far too often...

matt930s 10-08-2016 04:56 AM

Florida definitely got the brunt of this thing.

Eye wall currently sitting directly over Charleston. This thing has slowed to 10mph, it's hanging over us....

Flooding is already really bad. Tide never went down last night....

Not good Matt...while wind speeds and storm surge makes the headlines, slow movers that dump a bunch of rain are killers too. Stay safe all...

jwasbury 10-08-2016 05:13 AM

Anybody near Lowcountry/Beaufort County area with intel on the storm surge/flooding situation? Have family there, but all evacuated. Tide/water level chart looks a lot like Hurricane Sandy when it hit us in NYC/NJ metro area. It wasn't the wind or rain that got us, it was the surge. Here you see low tides that are higher than predicted high tide, and high tides that are...even higher. I hope everyone is high and dry.

Lots of wind in Mt Pleasant/Charleston. Saw a few shingles blow of the roof.

There's a storm drain in front of our house that goes across the street and the Wando river.
It's backed up to the top of the curb.

Lost power at home again about 4pm. My home router rebooted at 812am. Gonna head back home in a hour or so. Got homework to do.

18th green on our golf course (which I live on)...Hilton Head Island. The lagoon is usually about half that size. That's the cart path in the foreground covered with water. Now we are waiting the OK to go back.--Dave
