Chabuduo - good enough (on corner-cutting in China)
I found this article this morning, and while I have only begun to read it (at work, etc.) I find the subject interesting, and thought y'all might, too:
https://aeon.co/essays/what-chinese-corner-cutting-reveals-about-modernity I am accustomed to seeing a lot of sort of reflexive prejudice in the US against Chinese-made goods, or goods made by Chinese or Chinese-owned companies. Often, I have found this to be uninformed. But often I find myself agreeing, and feeling like I understand without knowing exactly why. I think this article gets to that feeling. But it also goes into the positive expressions of this, and the marvelous creativity that it can lead to.

I see that same thing happen with workers here. Do the minimum work to get a paycheck and out the door. The bottom line price seems to be what so many Wal Mart shoppers care about over anything else.
It seems to permeate a lot American workers. It is amazing to me that a Bridgeport made in the 40s is more valued for the quality of the machine itself than some state of the art new one. My wife loves antiques (that is why she loves me) and we have some pieces of furniture that were made in the era of real pure craftsmanship.
