Ho-LEE-KRAP! Surf's up!
I was in Oregon on Columbus day 1962. I sure hope the following is wrong...but preparations have been made.

ho-lee sheet! All y'all out there hunker down!
|
Damnation!
Is it too late to get a flight out that way? If that swell finds its way down to mavericks... wow! Way. Way, WAY beyond my skills but I'd still love to see it! |
A little more warning than a tsunami but can be as dangerous and destructive in the end. Follow the signs and get away from the beach.

Best wishes to all you PNW folks. Stay safe, keep dry!

Grabbed 4 gallons of gas for my chainsaw. That's should do it. Batteries and a stocked wine cellar just in case. Let er rip.
|
A tornado touched down in our little beach town (Manzanita) this morning. Have to find a new ice cream shop! Luckily the house was unscathed... for now.
|
Generator is standing by. Propane bottles filled. Gas & extra chains for the chainsaw. All the cars have a full gas tank, but if things get ugly, we'll drive only the Jeep, as it's best for going over/around downed trees.
The generator hadn't been started in over two years, and still had gas in the tank/carb. Instead of starting on the first pull as typical, it took two pulls. Let's hear it for avgas! Stays stable for the long haul. |
We're driving to the coast tomorrow to pickup a vehicle we bought... Taken a few minor precautions here at the house (gutters cleaned of debris, furniture stored, etc). Can't say I'm really diggin' going to the coast tomorrow but I think we'll be OK as we should be south of the worst of it.
Looks like TWO tornados touched down today in Oregon. Portland issued 10 Tornado warnings today (of which two hit the ground). Busy, busy day further north... angela |
Yep, it was a wild one. More tomorrow...
|
Angela and Steve, be careful, even if you are South of the worst of it.
|
I'm still hoping it'll turn out to be TV hype..and just heaver than normal wind & rain. Guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I cut down my last big tree last summer. The neighbors didn't..... It's been a while since the last "big un" |
Paul - I recall 1962 also. Was in Port Townsend by the water, never forget that night.
Looking forward to this one. I can go cut firewood and maybe sell one of my generators? |
My sister on the NW coast is off Facebook and did not pick up her cell phone, hoping she's okay.
Ride it out boys, the news is making it look like doomsday out there. |
10:00 A.M. here in the mid valley. So far, nothing. Still hoping it'll be a bust. By that I mean just the usual "big blow", but not even close to Columbus day '62.

Airports along the Straights of Juan de Fuca are starting to get gusty winds. Along the coast, Hoquiam airport is gusting to 25.
All the inland airports are still relatively calm- less than 10 knot winds. |
Just rain so far here, about 10 miles north of downtown Seattle. Worst is projected for 8pm or so... lots of large trees on my property, crossing my fingers. I have a fire in the woodstove downstairs and we will plan to ride it out down there, we will lose power for sure. Good luck to my fellow PNW Pelicans!

Barely a breeze and a little rain here in Magnolia (3miles from dt Seattle).
