Glock > Beretta > 1911 ?

Glock Woos Marine and Army Spec Ops. Is DoD Next? | Military.com

The Beretta M9 replaced the M1911 as the US military pistol.

The Army is now searching for a replacement for the Beretta.

S&W has been dropped from the competition. Glock, SIG, FN, and Beretta are still in the competition.

As far as military units adopting one pistol or another, Glock might have the current momentum, with Army Special Forces and USMC Special Operations choosing Glock.

Any one have more information? Who else has momentum right now? What do we know about the competition? Here is an article from 2015. Why did S&W get dropped?

Sadly, technical merit is often not the deciding factor in these 'competitions'. The decision to go with Beretta was purely political.

Here's more info that suggests Glock isn't well positioned in the competition.
The Top Three Contenders For The U.S. Military’s XM17 Modular Handgun System Contract – Bearing Arms

I've previously read that Glock wasn't too interested in military contracts, preferring police contracts. Not sure if that is true. I'm reading a history of Glock now.

Glocks are reliable but not very sexy pistols.

Being a revolver guy I only own one pistol. A STI Tactical 9mm. It is a beauty. But why some special forces have chosen that gun as
their primary sidearm is beyond me. It is single action like all 1911s. Probably not the best choice for the wounded soldier.
