Whats your take on Verstappen?
Is he a talent needing some discipline/guidance? Dangerous with some of his on track moves? Complainer or to big for his helmet?
A skilled driver no doubt.

Yes, +1 , all of the above... I keep hoping for someone to put him in the wall hard, once, to see if he gets it(plus him getting the penalty and maybe a race suspension). The way Grosjean got penalized years back and has been great since... He's got the invincible mentality of the young... needs a little more caution and he's World Champion material !

To be fair, many drivers have been criticized for being too aggressive in their early year (Hamilton and Grosjean come to mind). I do think that Verstappen will either be a WDC in the next few years or work his way down the ladder (maybe a drive for Williams, then Sauber, etc...) and out of the sport in the next few years.

I'm on the same page...And like Grosjean, once he's been taken to the woodshed, Vertappen will settle in to be a very good driver, but not one that rises to greatness. If you take away Verstappen's constant two-move blocking and tone down his reckless aggression at the starts, he would be back several positions.

He needs to have his superlicense pulled for a few races after refusing to honor team and official instruction in Mexico.

Best driver to hit F1 in years, innovative risk taker and has brought more entertainment to F1 than the rest of the field.
Only whiners and lesser talents complain, he doesn't need to change a thing..... Dennis |

He is a talented, spoiled brat whose dangerous blocking has been enabled by his team and the FIA.
Hopefully, he won't hurt someone bad before he gets the message.

This isn't nascar. they aren't supposed to crash at high speed. They don't have 3200 pound cages protecting them. when this cocky little snot makes two or THREE separate dangerous blocking line changes like he did at spa, he is putting other driver's lives in danger. Eventually they'll get sick of it and put HIM into the wall, hopefully no one will looose their life. Would YOU get on a track with a driver who ignores the safety rules? The first time he intentionally violated a safety rule and nearly crashed YOU out at speed, would you think he was the fonze? Prolly not. edit: If i recall, we had a similar discussion years ago about Simonchelli. I said he was dangerous and out of control, others disagreed. Quote:

Kimi Raikkonen has once again hit out at Formula 1 rival Max Verstappen over the Dutchman's aggressive driving, saying they were fortunate to escape a "big accident".
Verstappen came under fire from Raikkonen for defending too harshly during the Hungarian Grand Prix - and the matter came up again at Spa-Francorchamps, the duo involved in a battle in the mid-pack after opening lap contact at La Source. The Finn took issue specifically with Verstappen's defensive move on the Kemmel Straight as the Dutchman went for a late block to prevent Raikkonen from breezing through with DRS, making the Ferrari man lift to avoid collision. Speaking after the race, Raikkonen said: "I’m all up for fair battles and close racing. "But when I have to back off after Eau Rouge on the straight when I made my move - I had to brake not to hit him, because he turns after I make my move the first time - that, I think, is not correct. "We were fortunate there wasn’t a big accident because of that." Verstappen was not penalised for the block, as the rules do not prohibit a defending driver from reacting to a move from the attacking driver. Raikkonen continued: "If I have to brake from full speed, I haven’t had that with any other driver. "If I hadn’t braked, I would have hit him at the rear at full throttle. Something is not correct, but it doesn’t seem to matter." |

I think all this craziness around ever-narrowing rules of engagement are sanitizing the sport out of existence, there is no totally safe way to drive 300kmh, go around corners in groups and never have the crashes and bangs that are unfortunate result of a bunch of type A drivers in virtually equal cars all trying to fit in poorly designed tracks without good passing locations. As for 3200lbs of roll cage, F1 is pretty tough, far less momentum in the cars and far less protective steel required. I do not want to see any driver die, but seeking the infinite standard of protection for the highest level of auto racing makes as much sense as a vegan bullfight. Verstappen pushes the limits, for sure, but not unduly so in my view. Dennis |

Schumacher, Prost, and Senna were all young, brash and ultra aggressive. And multi-time champion. Nothing to see here, move on.

A true sportsman would have yielded the position, what I don't get is why they also penalized Vettel?

The hardest thing to teach someone is how to think like successful people do. But some of the greats have a kind of drive that is probably not fully sane. Some will go on to learn, and others not. I seem to recall some shunts that were downright Machiavellian, and at least one of the true greats going down trying to make undeveloped machinery take him to the podium.
