What are you afraid of?

So here's a discussion I don't think we've had before...

What scares you?

I'm pretty capable of fixing most things. I live on a 1/4 section in the country and raise some of our own food (beef and a decent garden) so we could be mostly self sufficient if we had to be.

2 things scare me:

1. Terminal illness affecting one of my children.

2. Something happening to me that prevents me from providing for my family.

Being accused of having a small dick.

O.k., sorry, couldn't help myself. Really, the death of one of my boys, the death of my wife. The only two things that really scare me.

Arizona_928 11-01-2016 06:27 PM

Permanent limiting injury. Death not so much.

craigster59 11-01-2016 06:31 PM

People coming to my door and saying "Halloween apples".

legion 11-01-2016 06:32 PM

Government. There's no telling what of mine it will decide to take.

Things I can't see, hear, or smell that can kill me.

Electricity, gas.

When I was a kid in Germany I stuck a metal rod into an electrical socket.

I remember thinking, "gee this looks like it will fit in there"

Then was instantly paralyzed until it seemed like the floor came up and slammed into the back of my head then black. Next thing I remember was opening my eyes to mom freaking out and shaking me. Feels like it happened yesterday.

A few years later my brother and I were watching TV. Mom was in the kitchen getting dinner together. We called her in to look at something. A few minutes later my father bursts into the room, grabs my brother and I by our collars, drags us outside and throws us in the car. Mom is in the front seat putting wet towels on her face, chest and arms and I could swear her skin was sizzling as we haul ass to the ER.

She had turned on the gas to the stove just as we'd called her. She thought she turned it off but found out she was wrong when she went back to the kitchen, lit a match and opened the oven door.

1) Registered Mail.
2) Announcement: "We will be returning to the gate for a BRIEF delay. Be underway as soon as we have the paperwork"..
3) Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth?"''
4) 1st wife at 0300 hrs: "Who is the woman that owns the car laying on it's side in our ditch? The one knocking on our door BEFORE she backed into the ditch?"

I had a former realtor that was afraid of that too. That's why I had to send a deputy instead.

If a voice on the phone asks for William Douglas. It means it's either my mother or the police; and my mother has been dead for over ten years.

This. Everybody dies but getting old and sick worries me more than anything else.
And something bad happening to my kids.

Porsche-O-Phile 11-01-2016 08:58 PM

The power of stupid people in large groups.

Reminds me of growing up. My middle name is the same as your last...if my dad ever summoned me by both, then I knew I was in trouble. So hearing Douglas or seeing my shadow scare the crap out of me :)

Porsche-O-Phile , you are so right-Nazi Germany springs to mind.
Also for something that happenned this week, and left our Leeds police force looking impotent, Google Leeds motorycle disturbance.
Roads unusable, people terrified, and the police basically did diddly squat for hours. Instead of arresting them at the scene of their crimes, they are now doing detective work to try to identify the 50 or so culprits.
If anyone rode a non road legal motorcycle without lights or helmet on the public road, and on the sidewalkm, doing wheelies through the traffic, they would have been arrested there and then and be facing charges by now of reckless driving, driving without a helmet, insurance, road fund licence, contravening the motor vehicle Construction & Use regulations, excessive noise, and whatever else applies, and your driving licence would be in the shredder.

Damn!...I wasn't so afraid until I read this thread...but to name just a few for me:
.
- Being wrongfully accused by the court system.
.
- A debilitating stroke where I'm left incapacitated and drooling.
.
- Liberalism.
.
...etc.

Having Donald Trump visit Canada, then worse still, decide to stay. (I say this as a Canadian.)

Oh, and snakes too!

PS. All joking aside, right now here in N.B. Canada, they are selecting a jury for a trial against a exotic pet shop owner who was
not careful enough with an African Python that killed two young boys while they slept at a sleepover above the pet store.

Horrific. IMO

Whoa... we have Beiber, you can take The Donald. And because we're such nice people, we'll throw in Hillary as well.

But to the point of the thread, my biggest fear seems to be similar to others. The thought of having dementia or alzheimers is easily by biggest fear.

Bugsinrugs 11-02-2016 04:09 AM

I am the child of Holocaust survivors.....so everything scares me.

I think that some may already have these kind of diseases on this forum as witnessed by the angry exchanges....

I understand that anger can be a characteristic of alzeimer's.

I am afraid of my daughter dying before me. Not afraid of anything else. At 70 yo I have had a good life and anytime after is a bonus....

masraum 11-02-2016 04:19 AM

Weird! I've never thought about this stuff.

GH85Carrera 11-02-2016 04:22 AM

Alzheimer's or some debilitating accident. Being unable to take care of my own basic needs and being a burden on my wife.

I do fear for the future of our great country. I see two horrible choices running for president. Neither of them will be a good president, and we have had all of Washington DC only doing what makes themselves more money and bring more power, and most important of all, what makes the other party look bad or powerless.
