Fallout from the election has already hit me!

I kid you not... one of my tenants, named "Jose", fled to Mexico today. He was kind enough to leave the keys and garage remotes in the house. I just can't wait to go back home to the USA, then to Albuquerque to see the condition of the rental.

pwd72s 11-09-2016 10:29 AM

Hmmm, guess he told you he was leaving?

KFC911 11-09-2016 10:37 AM

Jose has a wall to build, and he obviously isn't a procastinator :)

ckelly78z 11-09-2016 11:43 AM

The wall will be great, and Yuge !......lots of masonry work.

It will be epic, viewable from space, and rival China's imo....

The Great Wall Of Trump!

:)

So it sounds like Jo Jo was not, um, fully documented shall we say?
You must have known it was a possibility that his residency status might get abruptly changed by ICE No?

Bill Douglas 11-09-2016 12:47 PM

But Jose had a job etc. Not like the tens of thousands from the middle east who have no intention of working, claim benefits, then bring 15 members of his extended family over for the tax payer to look after.

Billy, we have been there and done that in the 80s and 90s. Good thing about that is their off spring have gone off to school and found meaningful jobs in our society and many are upstanding citizens. Lets really hope these guys do the same.

MMiller 11-09-2016 06:12 PM

Let me know if you need me to go by and check on it... :)

LakeCleElum 11-09-2016 09:01 PM

Jose came my way.......He's picking Apples at the very end of the season.......

Bowling 11-09-2016 09:56 PM

Yup, we've had them here for generations too. I'm just a bit grumpy about it since our prime minister said on TV that each "refuge" and their each of their family members costs the tax payer $82,000 every year for the rest of their lives.

There's a right and wrong way to everything. A good friend of mine is a LEGAL immigrant from Lebanon, he came over when he was about 20. Went through the process, got his citizenship, eventually got his CPA and started a business. Great dude, great family, and one of a very large community of LEGAL Lebanese immigrants that settled in Wichita. THAT is how the story is supposed to go. He is, btw, incredibly passionate about America and strongly against illegal immigration. As are all of the first generation legal immigrants that I know.

Sweet, Skankhunt43 is jelly and butt-hurt.

recycled sixtie 11-10-2016 05:41 AM

Motion is one smart dude. Nobody should resent anybody else's success. I just hope he comes back to a clean rental house. My wife and I have just spent three weeks cleaning and painting our condo(first time painted since new). The ex tenants did not do much damage but the place was dirty.

Yes, we can. That is what makes this country great.

If we work hard enough, sacrifice, make good logical life choices and truly invest in ourselves, we call all achieve success.

But if we sit on our asses and make THE EASY CHOICES instead of the hard ones, and take the lazy route through life all we can do is troll internet forums and change our log-in names every time we get banned and Get all jealous of others who aren't total SLACKERS.
Right?

Hey I thought you were leaving .... again?

aschen 11-10-2016 06:38 AM

I can't take any joy in Jose's misery, regardless if I agree or disagree with any policy that would force his deportation

mgatepi 11-10-2016 07:39 AM

Why is it the "lefties" all think making people obey our laws is being racist? I really don't understand this thinking....
I could care less about where people come from, just come here legally and respect our laws. Just that simple.
I guess I am one of the deplorable.....

fintstone 11-10-2016 07:45 AM

Jose need to go home and help build his own country.

Lol, hard to feel sorry for someone that is intentionally breaking the law and taking advantage of every tax paying American.

aschen 11-10-2016 08:20 AM

Its easy to feel sorry for someone who is intentionally breaking immigration laws to provide a decent life for himself and / or family. There is a pretty good chance it was his best option. I'm not saying we shouldent enforce immigration laws, but the world is a grey place, and a bit of empathy isnt a terrible thing.

Y'all might just do the same thing in a similar situation.

motion 11-10-2016 08:22 AM

I love 99% of the cultures out there, so I have no problem with Jose.... except... my property management company approved him for the home, not me. I've tried to exert some control over who lives in my homes, but PM companies will drop you like a hot potato if you try to specify anything. Fair Housing Act is a big deal to them. So Jose moved in 10 months ago. He didn't pay his first 2 months of utilities, so I did. I've been trying to get him to pay me back the $180 he owes me for that, but he refuses to communicate with me. His water gets shut off every month. I don't know what the amount due is now, but I'm pretty sure I'm on the hook for $500+. I don't know what the house looks like yet, but I'm 100% certain that its trashed. I've been down this road many, many times, LOL. He did pay a $900 security deposit, but when all is said and done, I will be eating several thousand dollars on this deal. He has never ONCE paid his rent anywhere close to the first, so he's been a constant PITA to me. Oh, there was also the time when the neighbors tracked down the PM company and told them that Jose was selling used cars out of the house and had them parked all over the front yard and street.

Just another day in the life of someone trying to make a better future for themselves :)

It is easy to feel sorry for a person who robs a 7-11 to provide a decent life for himself and / or family. There is a pretty good chance it was his best option. I'm not saying we shouldn't enforce armed robbery laws, but the world is a grey place, and a bit of empathy isn't a terrible thing.

While I might just do the same thing in a similar situation....I would not expect the 7-11 to welcome me, make excuses or intentionally make my doing so any easier.

A great illustration of the problem with binary mentality i was referring to

My son in law uses a property man.co with no issues so far. For myself we have managed our own condo and carefully screen out the tenants picking the best ones and getting references. We have been extremely lucky with our tenants so far. On our third set now. Having said that the relationship between goes from honeymoon to won't be seeing you again after four years. If you are away a lot that is not so good for self managing but it can be done....

Well then, what laws (according to you) are we allowed to break?

aschen 11-10-2016 08:56 AM

At no point did I endorse breaking laws, nor did I imply anybody should be able to

so (according to me), we should be allowed to break no laws. It doesn't stop me from feeling empathy for people put in hard spots or trying to see the other side of the story.

aigel 11-10-2016 08:58 AM

Don't think this has much to do with the elections. Maybe it was the straw that broke the camel's back. How do you even know the guy "fled" and was illegally here? If your PM company approved an undocumented immigrant, you need to fire them. Last but not least, there are plenty of legal immigrants that return to their home country. I see it happen all the time. Not doing great in the US is often the reason. I.e. in the last big recession, I have seen several tech people go leave back to Asia where they felt they had a better future.
