Lost my wedding ring

I have lost more wedding rings washing cars than anything else using this "loofa" type mitt. The inside gets soapy and wet, and will pull a ring off in a heartbeat.

If you were using one, it is probably there. Also check any gloves you might have worn recently (yard gloves, utility gloves, latex work gloves, etc...)

As the other guys have said; metal detector. I've heard of a few situations where the missing ring has been found with one.

I've got a Garret AT Gold which is kind of fun. So when you have found the ring, and your wife has fully forgiven you you could hit the Gold fields of California. It's quite good fun.

One of my crazy hobbies is metal detecting- about 25 years ago I was metal detecting some homes in San Jose that they were planning to tear down for the expansion of a hi-way. Out of about 50 homes 5=10 may have had families still living in them at the time. Out of the corner of my eye I saw a Hispanic lady watching me. After about an hour she approached me- she spoke English about as poorly as I speak Spanish. After a bit of a struggle to communicate I figured out she was telling we she had lost her wedding ring in her front yard while washing her car years ago. Went to her home and after 2 hours of searching I found it. She couldn't believe I fond it- perhaps more shocked that I gave it to her. The entire family and the family that lived next door came out and thanked me. Hadn't found anything of value that day - but their joy was my gift/find.

Find someone with a good metal detector ( not a cheap Radio Shack or Costco unit) - if it's in your lawn / flower beds etc- they will find it. Wish I could help you but I am in NO CA.

Keep looking. It may turn up. In a pant cuff, or shoe, or under your workbench in the garage. I find lots of stuff there...

Quite a sickening feeling...

Lost mine on Saturday probably when I was washing my hand with a degreaser. I only notice it later in the evening.

I went through all the paper towel that I used, inside and outside on a gravel driveway that is now covered with snow.

That sucks, Hugh. At least you can get the same guy to make you another. THat's a huge plus when you are used to such a special ring.

My wife lost mine between putting on her wedding dress and getting in the limo to come to the church on the day of our wedding. Fortunately, my uncle was the pastor performing the service and lent me his ring which had been my grandfather's to use for the ceremony. Then we went and got another.

Hugh, go back to the Japanese guy. It should be just like you haven't lost it.

I have lost my ring three times. Each time, I was able to go back to dads shop and make another with my wife laughing her ass off. The very last time, I made three of them. Luckly I was able to find the original so that's keep in a save place. Since then, my father closed shop and retired. Now I built him a little shop set up in the garage for general repairs for our own stuff (in case I lose my ring again). No casting for us, all hand made, forged with a hammer and anvil just like the way my father learned it in the old country when he was in his early teens.

Be proactive about getting a replacement ring, but don't give up hope that you will find the old one. Sometimes life surprises us.

My dad had a garage. One lunchtimee whilst his mechanics were out, he got under a car hoping to speed up the repair. Unfortunately his wedding band shorted across the starter circuit and he was welded under the car with a badly burnt finger until the end of the lunch break. Fire Brigade cut him out.He didnt bother with a wedding ring after that, and I never obtained one because I feared doing the same thing to myself one day.

^^^^ this will exponentially increase you odds of finding it too, by a huge amount.

Look at the bright side- The sooner you order/get the new ring, the sooner you will find the old one!

I wore a spare wedding band for a long time, because I didn't want to damage the original band by working on cars etc. When I stopped doing anything more than driving to the car wash, I took the original band from the safety deposit box and started wearing it again. 20 years later it still fit.

Get your band remade. Offer your wife a new piece of jewelry too.

Mine comes off and is hung on a hook in the garage, I take it off to cook or to sleep as well.

9 weeks ago I broke my right wrist, surgery, 3 plates and 16 screws. around week 7 of recovery I realized that it wasn't where I set it at night and went into full panic mode at 3 am!

I was sharp enough to put it in the safe prior to surgery.

I lost a banjo bolt that attaches the brake line to the caliper on my truck.

I know it's not made of gold, but hell it might as well be. Took me at least a half an hour to finally find it laying on the inside of the A-arm. I guess it fell when I removed the caliper.

Lesson: small stuff doesn't go very far after they fall.

Had the opposite happen. Might have gained some weight but also had a swelling caused by some reaction, I forget. Tried to take it off and it angered the finger which got even more swollen and changed color...
Went thru a couple jewelers to cut the damn thing off, they could not (platinum or tinanium, heck if I recall). Ended up at a fire station, where they have a special tool to cut that metal (must have been titanium).. Bought another, wife doesn't care as long as I have one ;-)

Moral of the story, gold is good, stick with that. Those fancy new metals can be a problem !
